We actually ended up with a nice 30 minutes of rain and .10" when I expected partly cloudy.

We definitely have stressed maples starting to turn and swamp maples already flipping in Franklin Co. I'm feeling a somewhat short but explosive foliage fireworks this year in NW MA.

My relatives are up off the water but it is starting to look bigger than Juan at this point.

Not sure how susceptible Halifax Harbor is to surge? I would guess the big issue is downed trees because there are so many big beautiful trees in the Halifax-Dartmouth area, never mind the outskirts. Probably looking at a few days without power but not too much structural damage. I know folks in Yarmouth, Sable River, Lunenburg and Halifax.

Yeah, I'm not psyched for my in-laws right now, they are going into buckle down mode.

Fuk, there can be 1-2" differences between my house on the far N side of Greenfield (almost in Colrain) and far S side (almost in Deerfield). In fact, for quite a while, when I was submitting my NWS reports I would state exactly where I was because downtown could often have 1" less snow (or sometimes 1" more) even though I am only about 200' higher.

We all know there should be a weather station and snow board in a little fenced area on Boston Common, just need to find somebody on Beacon Hill to walk down and take the measurements.

It can be infuriating. NWS almost always uses my reports for Greenfield because they know I'm pretty conservative with my measurements. I had to complain a few years ago when they used a "media" source for a few storms and they were way off from my totals both on the negative and positive side but almost every Greenfield report over the past 8 years is mine.
