I'm about 10 miles down the road from SLK right now. Got 6" on the ground, had some sweet WINDEX squalls on the way up last night and a low around 0 this morning. deep deep winter up here, Mike. Can't wait to see it in SNE.
Nah, skin will be thicker, expectations tempered, after last year's fiasco. That said, if I have more inches of rain than snow again this year come March, there will be melts.
Ray, thanks for all your hard work. Your outlook is always one of the highlights of my weather-watching year and I look forward to re-reading this several times to soak up as much as I can.
We'll be lamenting that we wasted this pattern in Novie when it's a -PNA torch all January. Hell, we'll probably lament all the blocking we get too...when it shows up in May.
They had 5-6"/hr type snow for a few hours in that death band. Wish I could've been there. As I recall, there were a few towns that reported legit hail in that band, too. Pretty special.
Yep. Not sure exactly how much fell in Hamden (I was in Boston then--it was awesome there, too), but my father reported his yardstick disappeared with several inches to spare. They were stuck in the house for several days before earth movers came through and cleared the roads.
That event blocked up the Merritt by the tunnel. Cars couldn't get up the hill for hours. My cousin also wound up finding a hotel for the night in Westchester because the traffic was so bad.
