Presidents’ Day weekend?
Super bowl weekend. The trip starts on Sunday. We rent out a bar for the game. Makes for a pretty rough Monday morning on the slopes some years….

Alright I wasn’t looking at the full run because the NAM looks really good as the primary low finally makes it way up here by 84 hours. Looks pretty juiced!

Too bad you couldn't hit Mad River. That's a fun one.
Yeah I guess I could hike it someday. Haha

How was skiing?
We stayed in Ludlow and I rode killington and Okemo, just a quick 2 day trip where most of my crew is really casual about slope time while I go hard and try to hit a lot of technical/nongroomer runs and spend the full day exploring (often alone but utilizing the singles lines which can be a game changer). Killington had good coverage and pretty nice snow quality overall, a lot of untouched snow deep in the trees too which is my favorite. That was a solid fun day.
Day 2 was Okemo on a Saturday so a circus with crowds and some pretty obnoxious lift waits early on. Things only got worse as that storm exploded off the coast. Winds ramped up impressively and quickly moved down the mountain. The summits were gusting 50 by 1pm and temps were down to -10! Conditions got super dangerous really fast…. I got frost bite on my nose (first time in my life! Scary shit). On top of that, the runs were completely skied and blown off, ice all over. I found a couple passable tree runs but that’s about it. Pretty ****ing miserable tbh.
Our airbnb was awesome though and the company was great. Tons of cards, boozing, edibles, karaoke..haha. Just non stop laughing all weekend.-

Quick side note…KBUF is 35…EVERY other site near and around all WNY is below freezing…end rant…
And wall to wall sun all day today, I'm sure those run ways are the largest cleared areas anywhere in the county. I think we chalk this up to solar heating of the surrounding area and leave it at that

It's been standard wording for a long time. I always find it funny because I'm usually out blasting around in it and it feels far from impossible.

Back from Vermont so just catching up on things, but this is an accurate thread title. I hate seeing the gfs lose this one as its been doing really well lately. Vermont was great except late Saturday the winds got insane and temps plummeted, I got frost bite on my nose for the first time in my life.... not fun. It was the coldest I've ever been in my life, actually got downright scary.

I can't get over the shift the CMC and UKMET made from 12z. Just a totally different look. Garbage to MECS without blinking an eye. These shifts are pretty wild.
In a way, I have to give the GFS credit for hanging tough even if it's wrong. These other models are just crazy.
A “crazy” model that had it right at times is far better than a consistent model that was wrong the whole time.

A 965mb low 200 miles off Ma and not even a flake for eastern NY. That’s a tight storm.

Collinsworth is the absolute worst.
I’ll lose all credibility now because I like collinsworth. I find him highly entertaining, even when he’s trashing my team lol. The intense hate of announcers always fascinates me.

Not sure if anyone listens to Mad Dog Russo on Sirius Ch. 82 but his show today was legendary recapping the weekend NFL games. The best part was him tearing apart post game shows (none of Rodgers 17 minute interview on NFL Network, just stupid replays and chit chat) and... destroying Tony Romo in an all time rant at 1:45 mins into the recorded version. OMGLOFL. So right. Romo got the squib call spot on but FFS shut the f*ck up otherwise. With 2 minutes left in the game at 11 pm at night in an all time classic... Romo is blithering about Josh Allen's legacy not once or twice but three times! And the scribbling on the telescreen...just stop. I thought that was idiotic also at the time. Allen is 24 years old, FFS. Romo is so godawful.
Romo is one of the best if not the best announcer in football and that seems to be the general consensus among well….damn near everyone. Shocked you don’t like him.

Out of curiosity, I was looking up average snowfall for Bristol Mountain, south of Rochester. I found information that says they average 120 to 130 inches. I am skeptical of this amount. I feel that ski resorts tend to inflate their amounts to attract guests. Curious if anybody who frequents there, or the Rochester crew (perhaps Delta?) can give any legitimacy to this data. I'm sure they can get some orographic enhancement, but the wind isn't often at a trajectory off the lakes to benefit them.
I think this is reasonable. I had a season pass there for years and have a coworker that lives right at the top of that hill. They often have more snow than surrouding locations. As Tim mentioned they pick up quite a bit of elevation dependent snow during late fall and especially in April. I’ve definitely been there before where it’s raining at the base and snowing halfway up. A definite micro climate.

I like Delta’s prospects in VT. How I wish my trip there was this coming weekend as opposed to the following.
Yeah I'm excited but also aware that I am in a high risk reward scenario here. A jog too far west and all the snowboarding gear isnt even leaving the truck. Hell if I knew for sure it would rain the whole time by Thursday morning I'd bail altogether and only be out 300 bucks total on the trip.

I’m well aware it’s all on the table…. from washout, to blue skies, to 3 feet of snow. If we wash out I save a bunch of money on lift tickets and do a lot of partying in the Airbnb. It’s hard to not have fun on a ski trip if you go with the right people. I obviously want a massive snow storm though.

That little blip over Monroe county is the airport measuring site. Lol
All jokes aside, the airport is probably the only place that measures at the correct intervals in that area which easily adds 10-20 inches on a season. You could add that same amount to a lot of places south of the lake if we all measured correctly.

Ugh I get the feeling the pattern breaks hard in February and we just torch like wild. It doesn’t look good and makes sense. We will have had about 6 weeks of cold before it happens.

Critical thicknesses are all stacked up right on our doorstep but nothing really pushing it SE too fast. Going to be a long 9 hours or so of snowpack eating rain.....
