You’re absolutely nuts. That was such a softball question. The mental gymnastics you trump supporters go through every day to defend that ****ing moron is mind boggling. Why not just admit that he’s an asshole once awhile. You know he is. Trumps response only needed to be: Stay vigilant, follow our instructions. We have the best doctors and scientists in the world working on this. We will get through. -

I had a crazy realization today. The November 11, 2019 storm ended up being my biggest storm of this whole winter season. I actually had that fear the day after it happened, realizing that it was anomalous and significant enough for that to be a possibility. Nothing like only going downhill from that day forward. -

I think a better way to interpret these numbers are that 4.15% of the seriously ill will die. I really have to believe that millions of people worldwide must have been infected with little to no symptoms. In that scenario the overall death rate would be far lower. I don't say this to take away any seriousness though. That's a super scary number for anyone that catches this and develops severe symptoms. -

My truck thermometer was reading 71 around 1230. Felt glorious. Windows down and jamming the tunes -

Winds are cranking good and it looks like quite a bit of clearing is developing behind that low topped “squall” line over far WNY. Even with the strongest jet moving east of us that clearing might be able to fully mix out the low levels and give us a few more hours of significant gusts. -

Thats a good question. I can say that when I ventured to Mont Tremblant a few months back I was blown away by the snowpack there. It was legit and they barely have had a day above freezing since then so I think its at least plausible. Apparently we live just south of the predominant storm track and baroclinic line where it basically never gets above freezing all winter. -

Absolutely amazing how just 150-200 miles north of us there is still a 2 foot plus snowpack. Also cool to see the highest of the high peaks still holding several feet of snow. So close yet so far. -

That is the standard turn around from what I've read. That said, there are many viruses in this world that we have never been able to develop a vaccine for, so that might be overly optimistic. On the other hand, I'm sure there is more work being done on this vaccine than in almost any time in modern history, so we may get a hail mary. -

On a happier note, that wind event for Friday looks well timed to maximize diurnal mixing. Would love to see some gusts up around 60mph, It's been awhile since we've had any exciting weather. And I know how many wind enthusiasts we have on this board, LOLZ! -

I would rather bankrupt the country while helping the average citizen than do it while lining the pockets of billionaires. Before the shit just hit the fan, Trump had us on course for one of the largest deficits in history while the economy was "scorching hot". It's insane to think we were running such a massive deficit at the height of this supposed amazing economy. Just think what will happen now as we actually enter a real recession. Trump is a complete ****ing joke of a "businessman". Corporate tax cuts at the height of our supposed strongest economy and still running nearly a 1 trillion dollar deficit. The guy is the greatest conman of all time and has no clue. -

Of all the conspiracy theories, this might be the one I hate the most (aside from flat earth theory, which is just absurd). CONTRAILS are a normal, understandable, and even forecast-able phenomena. When the upper atmosphere has the right moisture and temperature, the bergeron process is initiated creating long lasting contrails. The Military actively learned how to predict and forecast the formation of contrails as they could seriously jeopardize covert military operations. A sounding from Buffalo this morning shows quite an abundance of moisture aloft that was just waiting for the perfect trigger to condense and form ice crystals. I didnt dig too deep into the appleman charts, but it appears that the upper atmosphere was near ideal conditions both temp and humidity wise to make long lasting contrails. https://science-edu.larc.nasa.gov/contrail-edu/resources-activities-appleman_student.html Just google applman contrail chart for a myriad of different tools to forecast contrails. -

The US is a service based economy with an enormous amount of workers in restaurants, daycares, ubers, etc. These people will be decimated by this prolonged downturn. Couple that with the fact that half this country doesnt even have 400 dollars total in savings and the impending financial crisis will be one for the record books. If you don't think this pushes us into a deep recession you are being willfully ignorant. The house of cards is coming down hard and fast. -

As if we needed any more proof that the snowfall total in Roc is complete bullshit they really outdid themselves with Friday’s little event. Somehow the airport is a magical bullseye with almost 3x more snow than anywhere else. Amazing. -

Snowing pretty damn hard here at the moment so the ROC won't be snowless in March... -

Disagree. COVID-19 is a scary virus. It's incredibly contagious compared to similar viruses and far more deadly. The flu virus typically has a mortality rate of .05 to .1%, COVID-19 is somewhere between 2-3%. Case in point, In one of the worst seasons (2018) for flu it killed 30 people in one week in Italy with 832,000 infected. Coronavirus just killed 41 individuals in a single day within the same population with only 3858 infection cases. That's an astounding statistic. Additionally, subsequent research of SAR's patients found that nearly all of the cases that advanced to pneumonia suffered PERMANENT lung damage. This same permanent damage is already being seen in recovered cases of COVID-19. The US medical system is nearly at full capacity on a normal day. Just think how long you typically wait at the ER. Now imagine thousands upon thousands of additional highly contagious people flooding the hospitals. It's going to be a nightmare. BuffaloWeather, I would be surprised if you can still make this New Zealand trip. Pulling for you though.. Let's compare this to H1N1 as you mentioned. It's apples and oranges, this thing is a killer. -
I would download the app radarscope. And buy the 10 dollar one time fee pro version. Best pocket radar on the market.

Lake Erie looks like its really coming alive on IR satellite. Perhaps as the shear decreases and the cold air deepens we can develop a nice band over Holiday Valley. I took off tomorrow so I'm going regardless at this point. **Does snow dance in thread** https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/?parms=subregional-MI-13-48-1-100-1&checked=map&colorbar=data

The poor nws in buffalo. The models have been pretty bad this year. I don’t think a single place south of buffalo will verify blizzard conditions today. Ouch.

Most of my top 10 largest synoptic storms from my entire life in Upstate NY came in the month of March. I agree the season is more or less over, but March is the king of truly monstrous storms. Don't count her out. -
Don’t forget that emergency one they popped for buffalo a couple years back when ground blizzards shut the airport down.

OMG, I'm sitting here perusing the latest models and realizing this thing is going to be be a dud for most of us aside from some isolated lake effect locations, then I head to the NWS and see they doubled down on everything. WOW. Just wow. I hope I'm wrong and they are right, but I just don't see it right now.

The 130 update isnt the real update. You can use that highlighting tool they have to see that nothing has changed since the 917am discussion. Not that I really think they will change their tune all that much, but I expect more from the real update that comes out mid afternoon.
