  1. NWS forecast for Asheville that I am looking at is almost all rain which I think is correct. Good luck to the mountain peeps with elevation!
  2. Seems we have seen that most springs, teleconnections go cold, lock in the east coast trough sometime in March and largely stay that way until mid-May. Today is a prime example of a beautiful 50 degree January day that you would never get in the spring because 20 to 30 mph winds always accompany the cooler temps that time of year. Enjoy today folks!
  3. Wow, five feet plus of snow; that would be 60.95 more inches than the model average for my area.
  4. Not a good time to go hiking through Donner Pass Happy New Year everyone!
  5. Bottomed out -2 F here as well, snow flurries through the night. Now a sweltering 5 F, happy Christmas Eve and Merry Christmas everyone!
  6. Woke up around 3:30 am still 40 F IMBY, 17 F now about 7 am. No snow to speak of.
  7. Hope you heal up quickly and enjoy the snow if we are lucky enough to get some for Christmas no less.
  8. Like clockwork NAO takes a dive this time of year; we will see if it bounces back or if Buckethead is reporting snow in May for the third consecutive year:
  9. I would say about an inch in East Asheville and a snow shower at the moment.
  10. The snow started in WNC on March 12th 1993, nice anniversary present this year
  11. It seems the typical spring pattern is for the teleconnections to lock in the east coast trough sometime in March or beginning of April.
  12. Noticed it was it was warmer at Sugar Mtn than my backyard this morning.
  13. Didn't measure but I estimate less than 2 inches IMBY in East Asheville. Have fun in Black Mountain.
  14. That is my recollection as well, albeit my memory is highly questionable LOL. Seemed liked 10 plus years ago NWFS was far more regularly reaching AVL than it has been over the past 10 years. Not sure how you would find data on this.
  15. Don't remember specifically about consecutive weekends but winter of 09/10 was epically snowy.
  16. NWS did a significant revision to the AVL forecast, less snow more of a mix.
  17. The NWS wind forecast for Asheville; certainly strong enough to be concerning:
  18. Nice scene on top of Sugar Mountain right now with lower cloud deck raking the top: http://www.skisugar.com/cams/
  19. 4 to 6 inches is what I think of as ideal, I would rather not lose power and trees with more than that. I had a great time during the blizzard of 93 but I was renting back then LOL.
  20. Jason: "Nothing to see here" Thinking of the scene in Naked Gun when the missile hits the fireworks store.
