  1. Yea, first time I ever went cross country skiing was on the Parkway starting at the Hwy 276 intersection in May 1992. Winter is far from over.
  2. Seems over the past decade or more, this neck of the woods has three seasons: fall, winter, late winter followed by summer. There will be a spring fever week in February then the teleconnections setup for a western ridge and east coast trough; cold winds start blowing in March and persist into the first week in May with a smattering of brief warmups. Mountain valleys will continue to see snow flurries in April and into May for the higher elevations. It will be interesting to see if El Nino disrupts what has become a typical "Spring" pattern.
  3. What we can count on every year, the teleconnections will get right for snow except it will be the beginning of Spring.
  4. Nice, I am recording another whiff here in Avl. Sure to see a few flakes with NWF so got that going for me
  5. Speaking of snow pack, I was just watching some video from Buffaloweather thanks to you
  6. I am sure folks struggling to pay to heat their homes would appreciate a warm up. I think this January will be the highest heating bill I have ever had, luckily I am blessed to be able to make ends meet. Since it is going to be cold anyway, hoping to see some snow tonight.
  7. Not happy about getting blanked either but bring on the 60s. Still have Feb, March, April...May to get snow.
  8. Your definitely are more motivated than I am today. Glad you enjoyed your snow chasing adventure.
  9. 40 F IMBY and sprinkling. Wife and I took a nice walk when the sun was out yesterday.
  10. Didn't realize until you mentioned this that there is now a Foothills thread. Since I live in the French Broad Valley, should I start a Mountain Valley thread
  11. Yes, do not see light snow/flurries in Asheville with near the frequency we did 10 plus years ago.
  12. All it took to double the value of my morning low temp in 24 hours is to bring some precipitation
  13. I recall you had a tree come down due to ice some years ago. I certainly would gladly take rain over freezing rain but it ain't my choice LOL.
  14. About 0.5 inches for the event IMBY so far.
  15. There was a great view of the storm rolling into Asheville on Hunter's/AshevilleWx Grimes Teich Anderson webcam (https://www.ashevillewx.com/gtadowntownashevillecam):
  16. Certainly not much snow this past winter. However, I have seen snow in Asheville in years past on Halloween and went cross country skiing on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Mt Pisgah in May. There is at least a shot at winter weather for over six months of the year in WNC. That's a long winter We will not discuss what happens between the cold snaps and time between snow falls.
  17. Power was out for a little over 4 hours, just came on
  18. LOL, this is why mountain folks should never be led down the primrose path to spring fever during February Bottomed out at 22.6 F IMBY; normal low down here in the valley for mid-January is 26 F.
  19. I am starting to think February and March temps are inversely correlated Latest on the NAO
  20. Ski resorts should have bought you tickets to Portland in February
  21. Average high for Asheville the first half of January is 47 F; IMBY 35 F at 2 PM on March 14. Been off and on flurries most of the day around here.
  22. March and April nowadays are about the only months of the year that can produce persistently below normal temperatures. However, the normal high for March 13 is 58 F; so you really can't expect February style warmth in March Happy 30th anniversary to the Blizzard of 93
  23. This is just about as sure an occurrence in the month of March as the Spring equinox:
  24. Great photos! My wife and I should be down that way soon. Getting spring fever in Feb is tough in mountains. We know how it typically shakes out. Teleconnections finally go cold sometime in March followed by a series of east coast troughs with chilly 20 to 40 mph winds blowing regularly into May. Buckethead will be posting photos of snow he is getting in May. That said it is all worth it to not have that Charleston type summer heat.
