My camellias are in bloom, the grass needs mowing, and the mosquitoes are active. And that was before the 2 days of “winter” that just concluded. 90 degree days can’t be too far off. Happy Easter!

The watch for the first actual possibility of seeing something, anything frozen, continues to yield zip as December rushes toward January, my grass is showing significantly green and even rain is paltry. Plenty of wind. The Eastern Shore dweller knows general snowlessness is a fact of life. Recently its been an annual event. Excellent for working outdoors, and no complaints overall. Inevitably , some, wherever they live, may develop some level of “uppershoresadness” with the passage of several more weeks if things don’t improve. Certain posters have this malady year round anyway. That said, there’s plenty of good stuff that may happen yet. Some day…..

Yes I did see that program. Thanks, that part of the Bay country is overwhelmingly spectacular in its beauty to me. I’ve spent a lot of time there. There is always the tide, and it’s always a potential player.

I have a house located in Crocheron across the bay from Solomons. The Bishops Head tide gauge is less than 2 miles from the house. My co-owner travelled there yesterday from Towson, taking over 2.5 hours on flooded roads from Cambridge to drive 30 miles to Crocheron, and was present to experience the brutal full brunt of the tidal flooding last evening’s high tide when the BH gauge hit 5.13 feet, and unfortunately tide came right on in. Our garage and den had 5 or 6 inches of water in it. Many homes were flooded multiple times in the past 48 hours. A real mess when seawater gets indoors. The road in front of the house was 2 feet underwater…. Helluva storm there yesterday, full on gale force. Western shore got hammered badly also with the wind forcing water to the west. That’s life in a flood zone, sadly.

Last night’s radar was amazing to watch. It propagated northward and eastward up across the Bay, literally to the Chester River, where it turned more easterly such that the heavy cells streamed just south of my location. It rained hard for a couple brief moments then gently. There was 2 inches within a few miles to the south. It’s still been pretty dry, haven’t been covered by heavy rain at all. The last few nights have been optimal for viewing spectacular lightning in the distance though…. 0.20 inches last night….

The fringing was epic in my backyard. From over an inch at yours to what I received—— 0.04” not 30 miles farther northwest. Back to watering.

I’m grateful, on this winter morning and every morning, for all of our brave military serving and protecting us and for those who gave their lives to defend our freedom.

That would most likely be the gag reflex. Don't be exposed. Be safe. Avert your eyes from these painful purveyors of punnery. Feel better Mrs. J.

Thanks for doing this! If it's not too late, here are my two locations on the Eastern Shore..... 1) 39.15 N 76.12 W 2) 38.25 N 76.05 W Upper and lower shore, Kent and Dorchester.

Excellent descriptor. Those are the most maddening of all, so elusive of the hand. Anyone ever been attacked by one of those huge skeeters with a body around an inch long and equipped with a massive dagger? It sounds like a hornet when it homes in on one’s intoxicating bloodscent......visual heat sensors their guide.... Both kinds land, strike with lightning speed and escape before you can swear. This wet and pretty mild winter promises plenty of insects.

Truly, it has been mud season non-stop here on the Eastern Shore since this past June...
-
We have had some wet years but right now it’s immensely saturated. Been finding ticks on the barn cats all winter. Mud season returns next week !

The disappointment is palpable since the models largely missed the deal............The quoted statement somewhat rings true, the forum is often a hostile place to comments if you're not a street-credded member. And banter anytime (only for the mafia though or you get lit up) even when in storm mode................ BUT, being taken seriously is earned, which is why I'm not a regular poster.....( On topic, It's a sleetfest right now in Chestertown, roads are terrible. 3 people live here, I'm the only poster I know of rom this northish part of the sticks) Not north enough! So, smartass that I am, I'll go back to chuckling at the meltdowns and the butthurt, reading but not posting. This site is a place to learn from others, and I see posters who were once vilified now being accepted as valid contributors. Why? because they are making valid contributions (unlike this post) The more knowledgeable definitely prefer it that way from most of us .............there are people who have apparently have a lot of time to spend on writing comments, which is what makes it fun. Well, depending on who it is, some folks are just in their own world. If it wasn't fun, why would anyone be involved in this madness-inducing hobby? Have fun and be safe! %)

I remember some terrible ice storms from 1994. Ice on that magnitude is yet another awe-inspiring force. Listening to trees and branches snapping and crashing to the ground in the dark is unsettling at best. Have 2 wood stoves and generator but as a woodland dweller I’ll take a big pass on significant zr.
-
Mighty depressing forecast even for February for sure. No one sane roots for ice storms.
-
As the crow flies im maybe 25-30 northwest of you. Southwestern Kent County. looking outside there appears to be @ 3 +/- inches. Sleet was mixing last night @ 1030 But that northern tier modeling was pretty accurate apparently. I’ll take this as a win anytime. Still, overall, what a struggle this region continues to have.

I think what constitutes, or not, intelligent discussion is subjective to each viewer. Are some people just annoying as a matter of opinion? Certainly! Anyone who comes here with an open mind can learn a great deal from many knowledgeable people who share without rancor or judgment. Thanks for enlightening us as to your subjectively superior insight, and for counselling these hapless, voluntarily miserable, unwashed weenies with an excellent rhetorical self-check.. Well done..............

My snow is definitely stale and more an ice slab. Last night's Delmarva bonus band formed just south and east of my home. Salisbury/Seaford/milford/lewes had some nice action. No worries, it will all be gone and then perhaps we eventually get refreshed. Or wet.
-
.2 in my yard 6 miles southwest of Chestertown Total for last winter and this one is now a mind-boggling .6 Hovering near freezing, but not for long......was nice while it lasted..

January showers bring February flowers any more I can hardly recall what it is like to have a one-inch accumulating snow here on the shore it hasn’t done so imby in two years so missing the rainsnowslurry is just par for the course sigh

Southern MD / Lower Eastern Shore weather discussion
baldereagle replied to PrinceFrederickWx's topic in Mid Atlantic
I had measurable frost twice in the past week. ;)........sigh. -
I've measured .4 inches of frost the past 2 mornings. That's the Delmarva version of snow these past several years. There was, however, some very cool low-level, fairly dense freezing fog today, in addition.
-
Riding the positive vibe train and the trend toward the second half of January despite a drought for meaningful snow on the upper Eastern Shore that has reached an astounding scale even by our failure standards. Looking better that we might eventually break out! But............. I and a few other posters live where snow is usually an occasional novelty rather than long in duration and depth. Mud, on the other hand? I live in the heart of muck central. Pretty much who doesn't these days. Slant-sticked 3-4 inches in parts of mby this morning......
-
But, but but........... if there's no cold air, how will the rain stay mainly on the plain? Lol HNY to all. Except Ji.

December 16-17, 2020 Winter Storm Obs/Nowcasting
baldereagle replied to WxUSAF's topic in Mid Atlantic
34. I would actually love to see the dry slot rather than 1-2 inches of cold rain; the state of my yard is, and pretty much has been for several months, a quagmire. Elevation here in southwestern Kent County MD is 16.69 feet and the Chesapeake Bay water doesn't help it snow, ever. I'll hopefully see more tomorrow than the .3 of slush that I recorded all last winter. lol Good luck all!
