The heavies just ripped through town. A bit of lightning and some thunder, but overall pretty meh here with a side of eh. Is nice to see some lightning and a few rumbles of thunder though. Edit: Was nice looking south and seeing brightness and north seeing the satanic darkness though when driving up from Norwich.

I find it funny that the biggest severe fanatic (Paul) never seems to post (or does so in limited fashion) on the active severe threads.

19.5 total for me (including the final burst last night) but I do think me and you shorted ourselves by an inch or 2. I measured 19" @ 5pm. My first and only measurement of the day. No board clearing.

Wow. First I've seen a radar image today. Looks like Brooklyn was getting pounded. But here in Manchester, just near Hartford I can definitely see how we were in that area of weakness.

Just a real fine snow here. Visibility is not the best, but the snow is just not amounting to much.

Really not much here at work (Manchester). Maybe an inch or 2 if that. Hopefully it's piling up better back in Brooklyn. I have not checked with my source there yet.

Snow growth not too great here at work in Manchester, but was pretty good in Brooklyn, 40 miles east. Definitely a different scene back home.

I was under the impression this was going to be a dry snow. Sh*t is wet and heavy. 34F right now.

Idiot me. lYeah. Full foliage, and tons of tree damage. Roads were still being cleared 3 -4 weeks later. I suppose it's pretty comparable to the damage in CT a few years back during the October storm.

I don't recall the event in April 88.

October 4, 1987 Not SNE, but a great event from 30 years ago today when I lived south of Albany, next to I-90 just over the border from Mass. in Old Chatham, NY. Cars were stranded and I was going back and forth up the hill with gas for people. One of my all time favorite events as it occurred less than 2 weeks after summer ended and we ended up having no school for the entire week (storm was Saturday into Sunday). Although, that winter was fairly crappy after that, and since then never wanted to see another October snow storm, thinking that it meant there would be minimal snow for the remainder of the year. I'm guessing the main reason for me not remembering this was due to the fact that I was at college in Bristol R.I. where this storm was more than likely a rainfest.

Looks like box lowered my high end total from 33 to 31 inches. Disappointment all around. [kidding] Should be an interesting couple of days. After I signed off last night, I became pretty sick. Kind of sucks because I will probably be sleeping for most of today.

People are really setting high expectations for this one. The problem is when people take that high end of the forecast and just run with it. Do I expect 30+ inches out of this? No way. Will I be dissapointed if less than a foot falls? Maybe. But all things considering with this season, I will be happy with whatever happens (as long as taint doesn't make it to my neck of the woods). Folks really need to keep it all in persepective. If the overnight runs reduce totals, I don't want to be in the way of the jumpers, but I would hope that people think rationally before deciding to take the dive off the Tobin, or grab the 3rd rail of the South Station bound train.
