  1. They closed the Brooklyn golf course 2 years ago. Now it is just an overgrown field.
  2. That sh*t is great. That first write up about the blizzard of 1888 made that storm out to be sheer misery. When I was a kid (1982 or so) I had a family member who lived to be 106 years old. She would tell stories of what she remembered of the Blizzard of '88 as a kid. She even had an album with some photos. Was great stuff. She lived in the Albany area which got hit with the worst with snowfall amounts. As much as many of us want snow upon snow, I don't think we would want to be around during the times before modern snow clearing. I can't see Kevin surviving an 1888 scenario.
  3. Nothing to do here these days but look back at historical events of yore.
  4. ...Scott always delivers with the pics. This time he has out done himself. Sh*t is truly magically unreal. That shot of the top 1/4 or so of the trails heading into the cloud of doom is so awesome.
  5. She was looking for someone to tell her days in advance that the storm would do the kind of damage it did and in those locations.
  6. A bit of a disheartening conversation with my mom yesterday. My parents (mom is 80 years old and my dad 87) live in Southbury, CT...one of the towns that was hit hard during last weeks severe. They lost power as the tornado path seemingly went overhead and touchdown not too far from their house. Lucky for them they were able to head to the Adirondacks for Memorial day a bit earlier, leaving the downed wires, trees, other damage, and frustrations of everyone else behind. Many people were not so lucky as they were forced to hold up in shelters. We spoke yesterday about the weather, and forecasting in general, although the main gist of the brief conversation was with regard to the same old stuff we read on this forum...She was pretty much disgruntled at the "lack of forecasting", preparing them for the weather that happened that day. She admitted that early on in the day and the night before there were discussions of severe weather, but what got her was that no one mentioned on the news that there would be all of the damage, particularly the extent of the power outages in her area. Basically, she is of that age where there is this expectation of details and specifics that just don't exist. It was bit disheartening to hear as I know all of the mets on this forum hear this kind of frustration all of the time...always 20/20 vision after the fact kind of stuff. She even pulled the go to line out as well..."Why do they even bother when most of the time they are wrong" . She ended with, "What ever happened to the old days where the weather would come in once at night and once in the morning? Instead we have all day forecasting with nothing predicting what happened" By the time it's my turn to chime in she has already worked herself up and want to discuss it anymore.
  7. I don't understand that line of reasoning. Once it is out there for people to see in a social media format it is almost impossible for it not to be shared unless it is via private message, email, etc.
  8. o.k. If I go I will be leaving Manchester at around 3:30. I am sure there are still road closures at this point.
  9. Weenie to be used as a chainsaw.
  10. No damage to the house. A few limbs down, but I am not sure when power will be restored so I might take a trip out there after work. My mom's cell phone battery was low last night, and I know they have their land line tied in with the digital cable so that means there is no landline working (since I am sure they did not purchase the 48 hour battery with it).
  11. If you really cared about your on-line friends you would cancel your vacation and take pics for us.
  12. Ironically, the usual traffic congested spot through Waterbury is traffic free during this time.
  13. lol. Maybe Wiz can write a book about it.
  14. I thought so. Love the shades of grey on that.
  15. I always find it awesome when this stuff is seen on the fly like this and people can take a photo. I would have done the same thing in the middle of the road if I could.
  16. Be safe ...said in a serious tone this time. Eversource now showing 100% outage.
  17. Saw a pic of 1.5" hail ...and this from Windsor.
  18. Just spoke to my mom (southbury). Said it was really pretty scary...short, but scary. Where are you now?
  19. The purple dot? Not too far from my parents.
