  1. ...and congrats to those losing power who wish for it. Sometimes the Grinch does give to those who are persistent.
  2. Tame here. Heard wind overnight, but really didn't seem like a big deal. Will assess the "damage" in a few minutes. Power went out for 30 seconds.
  3. seems like alot of energy, money and time for something that doesn't happen all too often. I heard it was done for weather reasons.
  4. Indeed. What I have noticed is this push to trim back trees along the highway, probably the place that needs it least. Barren land off of 395 in may spots well into the woods. Odd since there are zero power lines there, but I think it has to do with the sun getting to the snow or some sh.it like that. I don't entirely get the thinking there.
  5. What about the trees that have lived, and survived for decades, even centuries through storms of yore?
  6. Any event that has "widespread outages" you can bet that my location will be joining in on it. Nope. There has been a push to trim back trees since one of the tropical storms did damage about 10 years ago, but I don't think it has made much of a difference. Power lines and their close proximity to trees never mix well during wind events...and heavy snow events.
  7. Meanwhile, in the Adirondacks they be trucking snow away this morning.
  8. Folks on the vineyard singing Jimmy Buffett Christmas songs while drinking eggnog and making snow angels.
  9. A year ago last July we had a very short span of quick gusts...Under 15 minutes. It only took one 50mph gust to break the right tree branches on to the right power lines for us to lose power for almost one week.
  10. At least we have this type of comedy to help ease the pain of the next few weeks. ...Keep 'em coming, George. I like your style. Don't let anyone try and bring you down.
  11. I am not sure who wants and roots for power outage in the winter, but no thanks on my end. Rooting for wind damage, is rooting for power disruptions. Wind doesn't discriminate, and only pick just a few random trees / limbs to knock down without power lines getting in on the destruction.
  12. It's time to light the voodoo candle.
  13. ...This is f.ucking awful. I'm closing the shades and disappearing until further notice. Enjoy your damn eggnog in Hawaiian shirts, and speedos. Merry fu.cking Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and what ever else you do in the spring time weather.
  14. I was kind of chuckling yesterday as people were getting excited about this yesterday, almost 9 or 10 days out. It was funny as well, hearing people at work talking about the HUGE Christmas snowstorm coming. Continued on-line activity is bad for my aging eyes, my sanity and my sex life, so I use my time on-line sparingly and only when it really matters. THIS is something that does not really matter.
