So nice to have an event overperform in our region, and it’s my favorite kind of snowfall—Currier & Ives style. I hope everyone enjoys the storm. It’s been an interesting event to watch unfold.
I’ll be very happy with a couple inches of 20:1 fluff falling in an environment that’s very extreme for these parts. It’s starting to feel pretty brutal outside in Tulsa, but the wind chill maps to the north are just incredible.
Incredible winter scene outside here in Tulsa. Bursts of powder dancing around in the cruel wind. This is the scene I hope for near Christmas Day each year. What a gift! May you all feel that childlike wonder today.
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t the potency of the arctic air suggest that the low might dig farther south than the models show at this range?
Well, I don’t think we will be in 70s again for Christmas this year ***knocks on multiple wood surfaces***, so I will count that as a win. Maybe we can get some action in a couple weeks!
Does anyone know how many times (if any!) it has snowed when below zero in our area? This is so surreal. Some all-time record lows in play tonight if everything clears and winds calm enough. And another storm Tuesday and Wednesday? Whoa.
Looks like Siberia outside, big (record?) storm on the way, record-challenging sub-32 degree stretch in play, record cold Sunday-Tuesday possible... this is a stretch we’ll always remember, fellow weenies.
It’s pretty cool that Christmas Eve night and Christmas morning will be quite cold for all of us. That always makes things feel a bit more special for me.
TSA just updated their decision support page to 2.8” accumulation for Tulsa tomorrow. I think we may break the 3”+ drought if rates are close to what’s modeled.
I remember this event well. Incredible rates and enormous wet flakes. It was a beautiful snow that coated everything, but it was also an incredible disappearing act!
