Is anybody getting their tapping supplies dusted off yet? The past 4 mornings I've noticed a dramatic difference in the bird songs. I know winter type weather isn't over, but going forward there will be more frequent interludes of spring mixed in...we have passed the solid wall to wall winter period. Yes, there can be snow Memorial Day Weekend up here. Im not denying that...this is the part of winter I like the most- still winter, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel

43 degrees

Last night, starting around 5pm and continuing overnight- .3inches of snow measured on behalf of Alex. As of noon today, Alex's weather station had the temp at 43 degrees Tap those maples!

Same...spring is creeping in. I dont mind. Winter is long up here. The smallest signs of spring come right at the time the brain usually says- I've had enough of the cold and dark days...the bird songs are changing, and becoming more enthusiastic...let's move into tapping season!

Family in Plymouth sent me a text saying it was 60 degrees

My original guess was 3-5 inches before changeover in mby...im now going with 3 inches before the changeover...

Based on how fast this storm is moving, and how far west the track is- for mby which is rt302 in Bretton Woods, im going with 3 inches before the changeover

This next storm fits the pattern of snow to sleet...my guess is 3 up to 5 inches of snow before it goes to sleet...for the base of Bretton Woods ski area/rt302

Currently light snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Rt 302 is a complete mess

This winter has def had an interesting evolution. Rain on Thanksgiving and opening day at Bretton Woods. Not much good snow making temps at all through the first two weeks of Dec. Then the Grinch Storm- closed the ski resort, closed Nordic Skiing, closed Tubing, Snowmobiling non existent. Then things gradually improved, not anything to write home about Synoptic wise, but temps improved for snowmaking to kick in, we did get a good base builder, upsloped kicked in. Things are stable now as we head into February. It just took forever... The winter prior to me moving up here- All Systems go by November. I remember Alex was glade Skiing.

I wonder if upslope kicks in? I was surprised at the temps up here. Def a dense wet snow. Most of the day we were a tad above 30. Definite wind shift and temps have cooled a few degrees. Fascinating evolution. It was fun tracking. Whens the next storm?

Just light snow in BW. Everything covered in a fresh blanket of white makes for beautiful scenery and is a mood booster...which I need since I have been struggling a lot. So I will enjoy the flakes, and how they get tossed by the wind and breathe in the calm white landscape...
