  1. 1st frost of year, and a pretty heavy one at that. JUST stayed above freezing though, 32.7 degrees.
  2. Ended up with 0.87 for the event. Nice rain that had a chance to go into the ground instead of over it. Quite breezy overnight and this morning. 43.2/33.9 with NW 14G24.
  3. Snowing at the 'Shoe! http://www.resortcams.com/webcams/snowshoe-boathouse/
  4. Hey! They fell from the sky at some point too!
  5. Everyone is welcome, said yesterday or the day before not to worry, I am on vacation that week and had lots of outdoor stuff to do.........
  6. Yeah, that working stuff.....gets you EVERY time!
  7. Don't worry about getting rain next week, I am on vacation and planned on cutting firewood for the winter (16 dead trees standing, 75% ash), so rain is basically guaranteed!!
  8. RIC sits in a pretty good cooling spot, they can hit a freeze pretty early some years when others around don't.
  9. Well, A-basin opened over the weekend, son is a happy camper!
  10. LOL!! That is a great pic! Any video to go with it by chance?
  11. I have noticed since the temps dropped last Friday that the trees stopped dropping leaves, just goes to show it WAS heat/drought stress.
  12. This event is what got me to keeping a diary/record of the weather, so my records are 40 years old today! That was an awesome night/day!
  13. Bit foggy here this am and just under 50. Yesterday the sky cleared to a super fall afternoon with temp just touching 70. I knew fall was out there somewhere while suffering through last week.......
  14. Another 0.63 to go with yesterday 0.64, a nice two day 1.27" total that actually had a chance to soak into the ground rather than immediately runoff to ditches and creeks. A rather raw day with NE breezes....I like! Stayed under 55 degrees all day/night. Currently 51.3/49.9.
  15. Yep, know the feeling. I replanted the 'dead' areas from this springs planting and had been watering since Friday when it cooled off. Hoping to see some green today/tomorrow. I've climbed Quandary, BTW, in CO. lol
  16. FINALLY!!! A nice steady light rain/drizzle that started around noon yesterday and continues currently! 0.64" at 7 am CoCoRaHS reading, another looks like approx 0.05" since and I'll take EVERY drop. Currently 53.7/53.0
  17. First sub 60 degree high here! Currently 54.0/52.5, high was 58.1 and low was 49.3. This makes up about 5% for the disastrous heat from Wednesday and Thursday.
  18. Just be glad, those on the other side of that BDCF. I SHATTERED the record set today (90.4) for tomorrow am. 93.3 degrees! In OCTOBER!! I'd had 1 90 degree reading in 39 years of observations in October, and then pull a back to back this year, nuts! I hope we go to zero in 3 weeks to make up for this silliness! Edit, oh and BTW, Roanoke-99 Lynchburg-98, Danville-98, Blacksburg-94
  19. Welp, shattered the daily and set a new monthly record high temp here yesterday with a 90.4 degree reading! Old daily was 85 degrees from 2002, monthly was 90.1 from 10/9/2007. One more horrible day then fall MAYBE decides to stick around a while. Only second time I've recorded a 90+ in October, today may be the third!!! Nuts! Records go back to 1980.
  20. My September 2019 numbers, records date back to 1980 Rainfall for the month was 0.27 inches vs a normal of 3.40 inches, a -3.13 below normal and the 2nd driest Sept on record, with only 1985's 0.06 beating it. There were 3 days with measurable, 6 days with a 'T' and 21 dry days. Complete opposite of last Sept when I was pushing 10 inches of rainfall. Averaged high temp for the month was 86.7 degrees vs a normal of 77.3 degrees, a +9.4 degrees above and the 2nd warmest on record, with only 1998's 87.2 degrees beating it. The warmest day was on the 12th with a 92.2 degree reading. The averaged low temp was 57.4 degrees vs a normal of 52.7 degrees, a +4.7 degrees above. The coolest day was on the 20th with a 44.6 degree reading. Overall averaged temp was 72.0 degrees vs a normal of 65.0 degrees, a +7.0 degrees above and a new record for the month of Sept, beating 2018's and 2016's 71.0 degree reading by a whole degree!! Highest wind recorded during the month was 27 mph on the 27th. One other new record for the month, a new daily high set on 30th with 89.4 degree reading. Overall a VERY hot and dry month!
  21. I don't think it is just winter. Seems everything has pushed about 30-45 days forward. Sept is hot like August, winter doesn't want to start until after Christmas, May wants to be April.....
  22. Everything sorta gets rolled forward a day in CoCoRaHS, like CO-op's. 7am-7am vs midnight-midnight
  23. So, let's see if I can get this to squeeze into here. I only had 0.27 for the recording month of Sept, 2nd driest behind 1985's 0.05, due to my recording and reporting like a CO-op (CoCoRaHS). I had over 4 times that amount fall yesterday......(1.16), in less than an hour, but, that is an October number now. Here are more record's from NWS Blacksburg. Mine (Alleghany) and the county just west (Greenbrier WV) seem to be leading the pack in the dryness......
