  1. Wow, it looked 'rough' in that area around 4 pm yesterday!!
  2. My son became a trained spotter at 16.
  3. Only had a 31 mph gust with the storm that just rolled thru here, 0.90" in about 25 minutes.
  4. That area (Staunton to Fishersville to Waynesboro) is what I call the Valley 'Nader Zone', if anything big is gonna happen on the western side of the state, it will be there. I went thru there a couple years ago after a HUGE hail storm, ground was white and places had hail 6-10 inches deep where it had piled up or carried by rain.
  5. I think I can remember one in the eastern part of that county about 15 years ago.
  6. Yes to the 1974 outbreak, I was only 10 but remember the storms. The IMPRESSIVE thing about that Highland County storm is the 60-70 DBz's on radar. That area basically is a radar 'hole', I can't remember ever seeing that high of a value up there.
  7. Not much thunder and lightning, but showers are moving through my area now.
  8. Set a new 'cool max' for the date with a 69.1 degree high. Continues the strange pattern/string of cool 8/4's (well, 8/3's, reports are at 7am next day) since 2014. The old record was 73.7 from 2020, then 74.6 from 2018 and 77.1 degrees on both 2016 and 2014. Oh, and the 0.53 rainfall was a nice steady drizzle/light rain that actually did some good!
  9. Cloudy with light rain and 64 degrees at 10:30 am on 8/3, I'll take it!!
  10. Currently 53.6/52.8, low was 53.3
  11. My numbers for the month of July, 2023. Averaged high was 84.5 degrees vs a normal of 83.9 degrees, a +0.6 above average. The warmest (and only +90 so far this year) temp was 90.4 degrees on the 29th. Averaged low was 62.1 degrees vs a normal of 62.8 degrees, a -0.7 degrees below average. The coolest temp recorded was 55.3 degrees on the 11th and 12th. Overall temp was 73.3 degrees vs a normal of 73.4 degrees, a -0.1 degrees below average. Total rainfall for the month was 3.69 inches vs a normal of 4.01 inches, a -0.32 inches below normal. There were 16 days with measurable, 5 days with a 'T' and 10 dry days. The greatest rainfall for month was 1.42 inches on the 14th, which is also a new daily rainfall record for that date. Highest wind recorded was 46 mph on the 29th. Overall almost a normal month! Records go back to October 1979.
  12. Got down to 53.9 here, currently 54.1/53.3.
  13. Yep, Canaan Valley NWR sensor down to 37 as of 5 am, got to love that on the 1st day of August lol.
  14. DCA: -1.1 NYC: -1.3 BOS: -1.9 ORD: -0.7 ATL: +1.8 IAH: +2.2 DEN: -0.8 PHX: +2.1 SEA: +1.8
  15. So, finally had a +90 day yesterday, 90.4 for the high. Then a BIG storm rolled thru, only a 46 mph gust here, but just down the roll about a mile they had 60-70 mph and several trees broken off/snapped.
  16. Do it again! But DON'T take another ball to the head!
  17. BIG storm right on my doorstep...
  18. Enjoy! Son and I did that back in 2017, had a blast. Stop in Williams while you are in the neighborhood, they have some neat neon stuff there on old Rt 66. Stood on 'the corner' in Winslow and took a pic or two. I'll be a 'captive audience' during those dates as we are doing a cruise down the inside passage during that time. I'm more interested in the 3-4 days we are in Anchorage and interior before that starts lol. A great way to start retirement, last 'work' day is August 18 and last day on the schedule will be September 3rd as I burn up the remaining vacation. First 'free from job day' will be Labor Day, sorta funny in a way. I made a goal to myself to be out before 60 about a year after I lost my 1st wife suddenly, this will be a promise kept. I just didn't plan on having another wife to do things with, but things happen in mysterious (and good) ways sometimes lol.
  19. LOL, I like the 8th with that 60 degree day rearing its ugly head up...
  20. Ditto, here is mine for the month, I've looked and I'll guess 80-90% of CoCoRaHS report every day.
  21. Still haven't hit 90 here all summer, highest temp 88.2 back on 7/7. After a record cool (-4.5) June running about normal thru 24th for the month.
  22. Well, that was a dud, 0.04 in the gauge and a few 20 mph gusts. Lets see if what is west can do any better in next hour or so.
  23. Quite hazy/smoky over here in western VA
