90.0 on the button for high, 3rd 90 or greater of the year, other two were yesterday (9/6) at 90.9 and 7/29 at 90.4.

WOW what a shock to the system yesterday! Left Seattle at 55 degrees and arrived in Dulles at 98 degrees, yuck! Spent 12/13 glorious days in Alaska and aboard a cruise ship doing the Inside Passage. The BEST weather day was the one that counted, Glacier Bay, about 60 degrees and sunny all day, everyone had a sunburn from the sun and the reflection back off the water and snow. Rest of trip was in and out of fog and clouds/drizzle and in the 50's for the most part. Whittier is a STRANGE place (where we boarded ship from the train), big docks, large ships, a huge building and about nothing else lol.

VERY late with August numbers, just got back from Alaska and a cruise thru Inside Passage, wonderful! Anyway, numbers for August 2023- Averaged high was 82.0 degrees vs a normal of 82.7 degrees, a -0.7 degrees below average, warmest temp recorded was 88.2 degrees on the 22nd. Averaged low was 59.5 degrees vs a normal of 60.4 degrees, a -0.9 degrees below average. The coldest temp recorded was 48.8 degrees on the 20th. Overall averaged temp was 70.8 degrees vs a normal of 71.6 degrees, a -0.8 degrees below average. Total rainfall for the month was 2.52 inches vs the normal of 3.32 inches, a -0.80 inches below average. There were 11 days with measurable, 4 days with a 'T', and 16 dry days. Highest wind recorded was 31 mph on the 8th. There was one new record, a new 'cool max' on the 4th. Overall a slightly cooler and drier month. Without the 0.95" that fell on the 8th it would have really been a dry month. Special thanks to the neighbor and dad for keeping up with stuff (and cat feeding lol) while gone 13 days.

2023 Mid-Atlantic Garden, Lawn, and Other Green Stuff Thread

LOL, we just did ANOTHER 9 qts of pickles, cucumbers out the ears this year. I think somewhere near 35 qts and 20-25 pints of B&B, dill and spicy dill packed up for the next year or two. No cukes next year. We'll get at least one more round off the current plants from the looks of the small ones coming on. -
That area is very extreme, should be hiked by experienced hikers only, JMO. I've done the Tuckerman up to Mt Washington then back down Huntington back in 2004 and the Tuckerman/Lions Head/Boot Spur back in 2006. I'm in no shape to do that currently lol.

Right at 60 this morning, still not terrible for August. Running -0.8 for the month so far here. Agree with the above ^^, I've had one +90 day so far this year. Maybe get another or two this week...
-
Not as cool this morning, but I'll take 52.8/51.3 every morning in August if possible.
-
It is a truly amazing place.

Outstanding day, NW breeze, a few clouds and a high of 79. Clear and down to 49 now.

Currently partly cloudy and 63.7/62.2 here. Feels 'nice' compared to last few days, especially with a 5-10 mph breeze from WNW. Had 0.95 inches of rain from couple rounds of storms yesterday, enough to slide into 2nd place for greatest rainfall for the date behind the 1.46 inches in 2017.

That area (Staunton to Fishersville to Waynesboro) is what I call the Valley 'Nader Zone', if anything big is gonna happen on the western side of the state, it will be there. I went thru there a couple years ago after a HUGE hail storm, ground was white and places had hail 6-10 inches deep where it had piled up or carried by rain.- 2,785 replies

Yes to the 1974 outbreak, I was only 10 but remember the storms. The IMPRESSIVE thing about that Highland County storm is the 60-70 DBz's on radar. That area basically is a radar 'hole', I can't remember ever seeing that high of a value up there.- 2,785 replies
