  1. My numbers for July 2025 Averaged high temp was 86.3 degrees vs a normal of 83.9 degrees, a +2.4 degrees above average. The warmest temp recorded was 90.6 degrees on the 26th. Averaged low temp was 65.4 degrees vs a normal of 62.8 degrees, a +2.6 degrees above average. The coolest temp recorded for the month was 60.0 set on the 4th and 6th. Overall averaged temp was 75.9 degrees vs a normal of 73.4 degrees, a +2.5 degrees above average. Total rainfall for the month was 4.19 inches vs a normal of 4.01 inches, a +0.18 inches above average. The wettest day was the 10th with 1.55 inches falling. There were 17 days with measurable, 6 days with a 'T' and 8 dry days. Highest wind was on the 27th and 21st at 26 mph, but only 5 days had a wind at or above 25 mph. There were two new records, both 'warm minimums' set on the 30th and 31st. A warm to hot and very humid/muggy month with little temp variation. Every day had a high in the 80's except the 26th and 28th which barely crept above 90. Every night was between 60 and 70 degrees and many days/evenings with rainfall only adding to the mugginess.
  2. Yep, saw 44.6 at Canaan NWR earlier. Here the low was 54.9, currently 55.3/54.6 at 8 am with dense fog, less than 0.1 visibility! House is wide open.
  3. True! I hit 73.4 around 11 am this morning, been S L O W L Y falling since with clouds/fog and a few sprinkles, and a legit rain shower around 8 am. A wonderful break from the heat with E to NE breezes! To my south near Roanoke, they are getting pounded with rain and are under a FFW for the 2-3 inches that has fallen in last few hours. Currently 71.3/67.7 at 1:30 pm.
  4. Still on wrong side of front, which helped set another record 'warm minimum' for the date of 69.5 degrees. That BARELY breaks 1999's 69 degree previous. Currently 70.2/69.4 with sprinkles and patchy fog but wind has turned E/NE in last hour, fingers crossed.
  5. Second day in a row with a record 'warm minimum'. Old record for date was 69 degrees from 1982 and 2004, new record is 70.0 degrees. Soupy out there, currently 71.2/69.6 at 8 am.
  6. Tied record 'warm minimum' with 2015 with a 69.0 low. Currently 70.7/69.4 at 7:50 am. Yuck. This weekend is gonna feel SO much better!
  7. Definitely been a 'juicy' summer. IF you can get a storm, you get PLENTY of water. But, if it is a miss or near miss, just makes it more humid (if possible) and absolutely miserable. I picked up another .25" or so in like 5 minutes earlier this afternoon, got another small shower about to move in from NW.
  8. 0.27" from two separate storms. I'll take anything we can get this time of year. A steamy 69.0/68.2 at 7:45 am with a bit of fog and haze.
  9. Pouring, good amount of T&L.
  10. Good bit of thunder and lightning off to my west, radar looks like a hit here in 10 minutes or so.
  11. Had a thundershower about 1/2 hour ago, cooled us off to 79.0/73.3 after an 89.1 high earlier. Only 0.06/0.07 in gauge eyeballing from the window but I'll take it after past few days of heat and dry.
  12. Little late, but just want you to know that the small amount of interaction I had with your father was always a joy. It was easy to see that he loved weather and life in general. His humor was always spot on. Wishing you and family peace in this time.
  13. For second day in a row, JUST missed a 'warm minimum' for the date. 69.2 low, record is 69.9 from 2015. Currently 70.2/69.4 at 8 am with cloudy skies.
  14. Raining again here, started about 10 minutes ago and looks like about an hour or maybe more from radar view. 73.7/70.9
  15. Although the DP still in upper 60's, what a wonderful relief with the W/NW 10-20 mph breezes. Hit 84.8 earlier this afternoon, currently 81.7/68.3 with mostly cloudy skies.
  16. JUST missed a 'warm minimum' for the date. 68.7 low, record is 69 from 1986. Currently 71.1/68.9 at 8:10 am.
  17. The previously mentioned line from Harrisonburg to Beckley is pushing thru my area now, a quick .25 in 8 minutes. Still raining lightly with thunder and lightning starting to move away. Cooled us down to 73.1/71.9 right at 4 pm.
  18. YUCK! Currently 83.6/74.1 with a HI of 91, but might as well be 111 with all the moisture in the air, slaps you in the face as soon as the door to outside is opened. A cloudy/foggy start, but the sun poked out between 11 and noon and allowed temp to hit 85.2 before cloudy to partly cloudy returned. I'm sandwiched between lines forming right now at 2 pm. Looks like a good solid line is forming from Harrisonburg back SW to Beckley and another broken line from SE of Lexington VA down into the NC mountains towards Boone, all headed E or ESE at the moment. Amazing difference in rainfall across my county in past 10 days. There are places over 12 inches (with almost 6" falling in 2 hours!) and some right at an inch, although Alleghany is not a huge county (but strangely shaped like the state of WV, which borders us). Keeping an eye on the sky, stay safe out there today folks!
  19. Just back in, Happy Birthday @MillvilleWx! Had several rounds of showers and thundershowers. But, much like the past 7-9 days a small amount in the gauge for all the noise and light shows. I've had 2.14" fall since the 4th, but 1.55" of that happened on the 10th and only .32" in last seven days. My dad (in his low 80's) said today he couldn't remember a summer like this where it thundered and lightning for hours every day for over a week with so little to show for it from the sky.
  20. The hits just keep coming, FFW upgraded to a dangerous situation, my phone even went off, which I have set for only PDS's and tornado warnings. Folks near creeks and river advised to seek higher ground?!? Estimated rainfall 4+ inches with heavy rain still falling.
  21. FFW in NW and northern part of the county, now that same storm has gone severe, with a STW for NE part of the county. I'm missing it all by a mile at most, still hanging on to that 25 drop total and a couple 20-25 gusts blowing out of the storm.
  22. NWS radio just went off for a flash flood warning. I've had approx 25 raindrops, but JUST to my west that storm has stalled and rained hard for over an hour with 50-70 dbz showing. Probably 3 or more inches has fell if I had to guess.
  23. Well, we have the thunder again, 5th day, and again a few sprinkles. Looks like the storm is gonna go just west of us, amazingly EVERY storm on the radar is going ENE/NE except this one, going almost due N. IF it followed all the other storms it would hit here.
