FWA set another record with 77° today. This also ties the record for the most 70° or higher days in a row, which happened on four previous occasions (1938,1964,1998, and 2015). They will break the record tomorrow with a predicted high of 75°. I want to thank IWX for providing this stat. I also inquired about the most 70° November days and didn't get an answer to that. I don't know of a data source to easily come up with that.

I'm an old fart, so I remember the old daytime Jeopardy. I thought the same thing when the show was resurrected after Art Fleming was the host until 1975. If you get a chance, you should find a You Tube of the old show from the 60's - 70's. EDIT: Here is final old Jeopardy
-
Yes, I thought the same. They are still going to air all of the shows he taped. I believe that takes it up to around Christmas.

I was outside doing some yard work today and actually worked up a sweat. IND hit 79°, beating their old record of 76°. FWA not only set a record, they crushed the old one. RECORD EVENT REPORT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORTHERN INDIANA 440 PM EST SUN NOV 8 2020 ...RECORD DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE SET AT FORT WAYNE... ...RECORD WARMTH SO LATE IN THE SEASON... A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN SET TODAY AT FORT WAYNE. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 78 DEGREES WAS SET AT 257 PM EST. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 73 DEGREES SET IN 1915. THIS IS ALSO THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED SO LATE IN THE SEASON. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 78 DEGREES SET ON NOVEMBER 6, 1975.

Locally, our tests have a 48-72 hour turnaround. I don't think that's bad considering the numbers being tested. Also, in Indiana, I can get tested daily if I so desire. However, I don't know how government can force frequent testing. A percentage of the population won't even wear a mask. Do you think people with that mindset will agree to the government requiring frequent testing?

This is water under the bridge. Pointing fingers now is a waste of time, but the CDC and Fauci were throttled by the White House. I watched several of the briefings, and after Fauci spoke strongly on multiple occasions, the President would blow him off, attempt to minimize what he said, and in fact got pissed with him. Anyway, like I said, too late now. I would love to see the CDC be released to do their job the way it should have been done in the first place.

I'm pretty sure that Dayton is socked in with clouds and 49°. Meanwhile, it is a sunny 71 locally. Later, I'm going to dig up the number of 70 degree and above days for November at FWA and SBN. I'm guessing that this year will bump up against the records.

The large Northeast IN regional hospital (including seven satellite hospitals) I mentioned in an earlier post is at 81% capacity (1,067 total beds), which equates to 203 beds available. I couldn't find the number of ICU beds, but they do have 163 "special care" beds, which I would assume most of which are ICU beds. Anyway, they have 30 ICU beds available. It's not going to take many more serious cases and there's going to be trouble. I'm not only speaking from a healthcare standpoint, but also a financial one. Most of the area businesses and and industries utilizes PPOs and HMOs for their employees and use this large regional hospital. If they can't get a bed, a patient will have to go out of network (if they can find an open bed)for treatment, which would result in much higher patient costs. There are only three other hospitals in this 10 county area, one large, one medium, and one small one.

This may have already been mentioned, but local health departments are being overwhelmed in attempting to conduct contact tracing. I'm speaking of rural counties in Northeast IN and Northwest OH. Many have just about given up due to the shear numbers. That alone shows that it is beginning to spiral out of control.

I was once again in Wal Mart a few minutes ago, and once again counted 27 people without masks in 6 minutes, probably the same people who will scream the loudest when restrictions are reinstated. Look people, it's simple: If you want to continue to go shopping and keep the economy going, wear a damn mask. I need to stop shopping there. It will get me banned from here.

Interesting read concerning the warmth from IWX: HAVE RAISED HIGHS FRIDAY THROUGH TUESDAY GENERALLY 1 TO 4 DEGREES GIVEN DROUGHT FEEDBACK ENCOUNTERED YESTERDAY, A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF SUN, THE PROXIMITY OF THE UPPER RIDGE (586-588 DEKAMETERS), AND CLIMO RECORDS. FOR NOV 6-9, FT WAYNE HAD A DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURES OF 74 OR WARMER 5 TIMES IN PAST 100 YEARS, SO THIS IN INDICATIVE OF AN EXTREMELY RARE EVENT; HOWEVER, BELIEVE THESE HIGHS WILL BE REALIZED GIVEN THE ANOMALOUSLY STRONG UPPER LEVEL RIDGE. THE ENSEMBLE SITUATIONAL AWARENESS TABLE INDICATES THE RIDGE IS SO STRONG FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR IT WILL BE OUTSIDE OF THE CLIMATE PERCENTILES, INDICATING A BETTER CHANCE FOR RECORD HIGHS. RECORD HIGHS: FRI SAT SUN MON TUES 11/6 11/7 11/8 11/9 11/10 SOUTH BEND 78 74 72 75 71 FORT WAYNE 78 75 73 74 70 LONG TERM...SKIPPER

I went to a test site last Thursday in the late afternoon and got my negative result on Sunday morning (2 1/2 days).
-
Yep, me too. Looks like true Indian summer for the Hoosier state.

.........aaaaannnnd, it's snowing

Wow, seven of the top 11 in new cases. Oh, and we can't leave KY out at No. 16
-
You had to go and post that. Now the Ohio posters are drooling.

Winds look to be ferocious with the strong front Saturday night/Sunday. It will definitely be a change to those of us in the eastern part of the subfoum who haven't yet had a real taste of winter. Might even see a small accumulation of LES north of US 30 in northern IN and most of MI, as well as the eastern part of northern OH. I would like to see those 10 ft. waves crashing onto shore off of Lake Michigan, although the land owners along the lake may not be too happy about it, as they loose more ground to mother nature.

I was speaking with the safety director of a large regional hospital today and they are getting concerned with the growing numbers and in fact two of the smaller hospitals are full.
-
My next door neighbor had to be hospitalized last night due to difficulty breathing. He tested positive and was symptomatic. He is 59 and fairly healthy other than he was a smoker, but quit less than a year ago.
-
Most of our subforum is not faring well, but almost all of the southern 2/3s of Wisconsin with over 56 per 100,000 daily cases, wow.
-
A respiratory therapist friend of mine posted this on her Facebook page. She said that the burnout factor in hospitals will be severe if the numbers continue to climb like they have recently.
-
Here are the excess mortality numbers. The numbers only to go to early September due to incomplete reporting. I look for that curve to increase soon based on the sharp increase in cases. This gives a new view to those here that are still downplaying the seriousness of this virus.

So you're hinting at an insurrection? Really?!

Well, this is a forum for weather buffs and meteorologists, so we have tendency to follow the science, however "left" that may seem to some.

Thank you for admitting that the federal response has been questionable, except that it has been most of the time. Thank you for admitting that the administration played politics with people's lives.
