That is a cold look, so I'm not trying to downplay it, but this isn't bitter cold for Indianapolis. The normal low for IND in late January -6° C or 21°. A -5° C anomaly produces a low of 12° F. Scrolling through week 2 of the GEFS, the cold dome just north of the border slowly intensifies, and cold anomalies slowly bleeds into the northern Plains and Midwest, while the heart of the cold remains trapped in southern Canada/along the border. As Ricky alluded to above, at least it does look like a michsnowfreak favorite layout with some clippers. At least it's something to look forward to rather 2 weeks of blahhh.

It's not a 982, but it will work.

I'm sorry to hear that. Condolences to you and your family. I have been kind of harsh at times here, but when you've lost friends and seen multiple people suffer for days and weeks, it gets kind of personal...more than just hospital and death stats.

I can't remember the last time that we've had such a winter season snooze-fest. It's been cloudy with highs in the mid 30's and lows in the mid 20's for the past four days and the forecast is the same here for the next seven days. There's usually a little surprise system that breaks up the monotony.

I got a chuckle from IND's morning discussion met: STAGNANT PATTERN WILL LIKELY PERSIST THROUGH REMAINDER OF TODAY INTO TONIGHT AND FRI. THERE IS A HINT AT SOME MOISTURE TRYING TO SNEAK NORTH FROM OUR SOUTH; HOWEVER, THIS IS MORE IN-LINE WITH AN HONORABLE MENTION AND NOT PROGGED TO BE FRUITFUL FOR PRECIP.

If you divide those numbers by three, you might be close. Anyway, I'm happy for them. It's nice to share the love. We'll get ours. Besides, it's really comical watching them try to deal with 3" of snow.

I had to be tested last week due to multiple exposures (negative). Got my results in 36 hours.

It performed as expected by many here, other than the last minute 50-75 mile north shift in Indiana.

The heaviest band went north of me. I slept through it. 1.8" of cement here. The IWX office at this time has reported the most across Northern IN at 4.2"

Tell that to my co-worker's wife, who is a nurse practitioner and and otherwise healthy, active middle-aged woman who has developed blood clots due to Covid.

Ice is under performing in our area. ZR started around 7:30 EST and although it has been raining steadily since then, our accretion is only about 0.07". Radar and surface obs indicate a flip to plain rain with the next hour or two. I'm really happy about that. We don't need no stinking power outages.

For my Indiana guys, mike Ryan just posted this in NWSChat: Happy New Year everyone! Freezing rain is the story this morning, and the band east-west through the Indy metro is producing the steadiest rates so far this morning. As this band moves north over the next 30 minutes, precipitation coverage looks to be a bit more scattered. Also of note, the 32 degreee line appears to be following a county or so south of the location of the band. Bloomington has gone above freezing in the last hour and Terre Haute appear poised to do likewise within the next hour. Still think the Indy metro pulls above freezing from south to north in the 830-10 am timeframe. Road temps are in the 30-32 range over north central Indiana, 31-33 in the Indy metro and above freezing south of I-70. Finally, a trend we've noticed all night back into Missouri is that ice accrual seems to be roughly half to two thirds of the precipitation totals. That has held here...BMG had 0.11 inches precip and 0.06 ice accrual. in the last hour.

Thanks for the link to the HREF page and the link. The pdf does a good job of explaining what and why data is ingested into the model. The output seems more reasonable than the sites mentioned above (at least without paying for the data).

A third of the way through winter and I'm sitting at 3" of snow here. At this rate, I won't even make double digits.

I I ended up with 0.6". Top 2 event.

The all-day rain just changed to huge flakes here. Probably 1.5" an hour. That's about all the longer it will last, but it's worth just sitting in front of the picture window for awhile to enjoy.

Congrats to all of you getting hit. We were never in the game out over here except for some mood flakes and even those are vaporizing. It's been a massive virga fest in Northern Indiana this evening.

I see that madwx made this just the banter thread instead of the bitch and moan thread. Well, I'm still using it for its God intended purpose. My co-worker's wife is a nurse practitioner at a walk-in clinic. She has been dealing with Covid patients since day one and it finally got her. She has double pneumonia and will find out tomorrow when she gets a plasma infusion. It is beginning to worry me because it is hitting many people in my circle. I'll just keep masking up and stay isolated as much as possible. It's just hard to do in my line of work.
