  1. Yeah, pretty dry period. We ruined it with 0.2" of sleet here yesterday (on 0.09" of liquid), which unfortunately counts as snow. The dry spell will be broken as we're looking at up to an inch of qpf Wednesday night and Thursday with mmmaybe a couple more stat padding tenths as the precip ends.
  2. All the biting sarcasm aside, that is a reasonable, educated decision to not get vaccinated. In fact, during the check-in process (at least locally) each individual is asked if they have had any reactions to medications or vaccines in the past and advise of the greater risks to those that have had past problems. I think most of vitriol is aimed at those, and there are hundreds of thousands, whose only reason is political.
  3. "I'm really excited about the cold, blustery, overrunning heavy rain on Wednesday night/Thursday" he emotes with sarcastic disdain.
  4. We had a few tenths of sleet accumulation here. It caused me to have flashbacks from you know when.
  5. France is in particularly bad shape. https://www.newsnationnow.com/health/coronavirus/paris-may-face-new-lockdown-as-icus-fill-up/
  6. It will end up being just like the flu vaccine. Most younger people (under 30) I speak with don't bother with the shot. It's not until after the first time they get really sick from the flu that they decide to get vaccinated.
  7. If the numbers keep trending like they have in Indiana, would lift the mask mandate on the Friday before the Memorial Day weekend.
  8. Same here. For several days, models were spitting out around an inch of qpf for our area yesterday. Final total imby? The big T. lol
  9. You're singing to the choir. Not only has it affected everyone's life, it also has made my job significantly more complicated. I really enjoy public safety/service and had been considering continuing to work past 65 in a couple of years, but I'm now looking forward to retirement. Here is my Facebook memory from one year ago today.
  10. I actually spoke about it at length at a weather presentation I gave tonight. The White County courthouse in Monticello, IN
  11. ...DAILY RECORD HIGH SET AT SOUTH BEND AND TENTATIVE RECORD WARMEST LOW SET AT SBN FOR MARCH 10... AT 224 PM EST, THE TEMPERATURE AT THE SOUTH BEND AIRPORT ROSE TO 69 DEGREES, BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 67 SET IN 1902. THE LOW TEMPERATURE SO FAR TODAY HAS BEEN 53 AT 507 AM EST. THE CURRENT RECORD WARMEST LOW AT SOUTH BEND FOR MARCH 10TH IS 47 SET IN 2010. AT THIS TIME, THE TEMPERATURE IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN ABOVE 53 DEGREES THROUGH MIDNIGHT.
  12. If you watch the video, he does give kudos to the Trump administration in assisting the pharmaceutical industry for getting the vaccine developed quickly, but he also pointed out that he then threw the ball into the states' court and the White House offered minimal help in distribution. It doesn't do any good to quickly develop a vaccine if you don't have a plan to get it into people's arms.
  13. Being in emergency management and involved in some of the discussions on this topic, I'm seeing both sides here. Like Ricky, a lot of forecast mets do not like the change. However, I also know from first-hand experience that the public is woefully uneducated about NWS products and are easily confused about all of the products issued. Therefore, the decision was made to change to issuing only statements that describe public impact. And yes, they have researched this for quite some time and with implementation not occurring until 2024 "at the earliest", they are still proceeding very slowly with this change. An anecdote from one of the online discussions I was a part of was someone from NWS trying use some kind of term for the advisory replacement products. He kept wanting to say "statement", but also hesitated because that would imply a "special weather statement." By the end of the discussion, they were just referring it as the new product.
  14. I have been involved with the local health department's vaccine point of distribution (a school gym.) Many people, especially the elderly, have cried tears of joy for the opportunity to be vaccinated. It's been paradoxical that this clinic has been created to fight a deadly pandemic, while being one of the happiest places I've been a part of for some time. Also, I want to comment on the posts in the last couple of days concerning masks. The government is in a no-win situation here. They are getting strong push-back from the anti-maskers, even though they are proven effective. The comment about California being proof that mandates don't work is correct, only because people refuse to follow it. On the other hand, if the government did not take a strong position on a mask-wearing, they would be castigated for not doing enough to stem the spread of the virus, i.e. not promoting a proven aid in reducing the spread.
  15. He didn't say that everyone will get the vaccine, he said that there will be enough doses for everyone to get one. Let Darwin take care of the rest.
  16. Same here. went from 15" to a trace in 11 days.
  17. I figured I'd put this here. I have been eyeing the Huntington County river gauges this week. I was not worried about flooding per se, but ice jams causing flooding. Yesterday afternoon, I noticed a gauge spiking on the Salamonie River. I was getting ready to go check it out when I received a call from IWX about the same thing. I took the UAV with me and caught some footage of the ice breaking up. There was a mile or so of sheet ice behind a low head dam, with chunk ice piling up behind it. I got there just as the strong current and chunk ice caused the sheet ice to break up. (apologies about You Tube degrading the video quality) I love my job.
  18. I started to type something similar, then deleted it. I found that while exerting myself, such as shoveling snow, I feel better as my mouth stays moist and my lungs feel better.
  19. You may see me wearing a mask during flu season even if not mandated. I care about the health of those around me, family, friends, co-workers, co-shoppers, etc. I don't want to make others sick if I am unknowingly spewing the flu virus (not to mention that it may give me some protection.)
  20. I went from 7" yesterday morning to 3" this morning. I can't remember losing that much in 24 hours without a warm rain being involved.
  21. We lost 5" today alone, from 7" to 2"
  22. Just got my second shot. The first was the same as you with a slightly sore shoulder. Still waiting to see if I have any symptoms with this one.
