  1. pretty impressive cold. We've had two straight days with almost wall to wall sunshine and we've only topped out in the low to mid 30s each day. Really shows the depth of the cold airmass
  2. Sleet mixing in with rain this morning as the occluded low winds down over our area
  3. western troughing should set back up first week of April
  4. most migrate south but a few stay around during the winter
  5. temp jumped 13 degrees from 7 to 20 in a half hour as the inversion broke.
  6. Under clear skies, fresh snow cover and an inversion we got down to 2 this morning at my house. The airport nearby stayed well mixed and is in the middle teens
  7. was about 4" at 7 this morning, with snow still falling. Fairly good storm for March
  8. Ensembles are backing off on the intensity of the cold snap. Also looks to be fairly short lived
  9. the temp contrast between the northern and southern areas of our sub the past few weeks has been pretty crazy
  10. we were in a real bounty stretch from about 2005-2016 but it's cooled off since then. The real untold story (besides the obvious December is garbage), is that March snowfall has really tanked here in the past 10 years
  11. The main severe threat should be shifted east this season with the drought out west. Mildly optimistic about things especially as we head into summer. for this weekend, looking at a strongly forced line to push nw out of Iowa and give us some gusty winds
  12. Minnesota stands out like a sore thumb in both these maps. Pretty crazy localized pattern for them
  13. major overperformance in temps for a second day in a row, closing in on 50 here after tagging 42 yesterday. The HRRR was the only model to sniff this out, as always the NAMs do horrible with temps coming out of winter and into spring.
  14. snowpack held us in the lower 30s today but still plenty of melting in the full sunshine. finally was able to get most of the ice off my driveway from the ice storm on Tuesday
  15. It already compacted down to 2” by the time I measured this morning. I would guess that it got up to 3” or so when the snow stopped but that’s really just a guess
  16. the defo band means business and has great snow to liquid ratios
  17. 2.6" here as of 930. The first 4 hours of this have really overperformed in the deformation band, but the rates will really be dropping off as it moves eastward. The snow is really beautful sparkling in the streetlights
  18. been having lake enhanced flurries all morning here, nice dendrites but very minimal accumulation
  19. Mate, I like winter, I like snow, I like it to get cold. The whole month of January was -5.0 here and over 1/3 of the month had highs in the teens and single digits. In February we've had 5 days with highs in the teens and 6 more days below 25. We've had our share of cold and this winter has run it's course. It'll still snow in March and April and it will still get cold, but we don't need highs below 25 and lows below 10 after March 1st. That does nothing to make the outdoors more enjoyable. I get winter has sucked in this area in terms of snow but that's how it goes, we've had a great stretch of 15 years before this and we are due for some clunkers. That and AGW are just going to ensure that winters like this happen on a semi regular basis.
  20. hit -40 in International Falls this morning, so much cold bottled up just to our north. Will be nice to see that pushed out of the region this weekend
  21. NAMs going a lot less impressive with totals up here, something to keep an eye on
