Here’s what I meant. I’ve been looking forward to being a nobody for a long time. It’s who I really am. But the shear gravity of decades of high intensity mean it’s a transition. I’m sure I’ll love it but like vacation takes a few days to get used to a routine that’s different, retirement takes time also. Your retirement circumstances and experience can’t be grafted onto everyone else. I will say that no one I know is unhappy in retirement unless they don’t have enough $$ and that won’t be an issue for me. But I have made a commitment to my family and plan to stick with it if I can.
To Pickles’s point-retirement is usually lovely if one is in reasonable health. But it’s a huge life event and it requires adaptation to a different reality. I’m looking forward to it-had a child past 50 so we work into our 70s....
Outside of the northern tier-the large swath of ac may well be well over 90%. It’s basically a necessity in all of SNE for periods during the summer and even in NNE several nights per year.
With that said, we’re heading to London and Paris at the end of summer. We made sure everywhere we’re staying has ac. I was in London about 30 years ago during a heat wave-it was tough!
I haven’t used an alarm in years although if I needed to arise at 4:30 maybe....5:30 during the week now. Point is-didn’t wake up till 5:55 due to darker mornings. I hate losing light but by winter I’m happy.
So Europe with huge heat. Think of the cycle last time, Europe early July followed by arctic and AK followed by middle America and then the east coast. So if that repeats itself, we scorch around 8/10-15.
