  1. Face timed with our daughter last night. She stated colors are fabulous up there. I’ll be in NH next weekend for our annual men’s weekend (45 years and running!). We’ll head up to VT late week-around the 7-8th depending on my wife’s work schedule... Seasons changing-but for now back to shorts.
  2. Nope. 1800 life expectancy from birth in India was 25. China was 32 in 1850. Will post the link if needed later or tonight
  3. I’m observing my local squirrels rapidly fattening up.
  4. Fallacy. It took my awhile ro reconjure falsy....back to adolescence i generally agree but make no mistake-life before modern medicine (antibiotics, vaccination for diseases like polio) was very hard and often unpleasant. “What’s it leave in....what’s it leave out”-Bob Seger in “Against the Wind”.
  5. So you’re arguing a time when lifespans were <40 and a cut from a fungal infused branch you incurred while clearing from your lot and died from was better?
  6. Reinfection would most assuredly result in miler presentations such that over a relatively short time no one will need to mask. One of the reasons postulated from the 1918-19 pandemics that affected young people seemingly more severely is the fact that 30 years prior...not sure the year but it could have been 1888 or 1890 a similar but milder flu went through the population. The older people had some immunity such that if they got the 1918 version, the presentation was much milder. This isn’t the flu but my guess is the worst is absolutely over and hopefully I’m right.
  7. Really nice write up Ray. Tough call!
  8. Sorry to hear this Jeff. One of life’s worst assignments.....damn...
  9. Wow that rain would be really nice! 10 more calendar days-definitely experiencing the agitation with the impending big change....want to get tot he other side...
  10. Meh- our annual burner review is January. Once a year should be ok. I’m not worried about it. In any case, no heat needed so far-chilly our but ok in. Re shorts: Bad examples using running and hiking. Both of those activities are shorts unless it’s winter. Holiday dinner outdoors with fire pit keeping us warm. No shorts.
  11. We like comfort. Never understood the need to prove you’re ok being miserable...
  12. This will likely be the earliest I’ve had to turn on the furnace in a very long time. Only to turn it off a few days later...
  13. Not an unreasonable prog at this point..
  14. Am I gonna have to turn the heat in tonight? I suspect I might need to....then back to ac for a day or 3 late week. Starting to think we have a big snow winter ahead. Ideal will be that with at or slightly above normal temperatures. Eventually the water deficit will balance. Still plenty of time for tropical fun.
  15. And I don’t begrudge the rage. Heck, I’ve had great personal losses including my parents and only sibling but 12/30/00 is right up there...
  16. Phineas raging from MD gets last laugh from Randolph NH.
  17. Snow is 2 months away for play and 3 months for real.
  18. I'm going to do some time in Stowe at some point. Freak needs to get a real estate license so I can give him some business. I was in LA for 15 years and started interviewing for jobs on the east coast. The first one was DC and my perspective was it snowed plenty considering where my prior 15 years were. But the concept of upslope and synoptic snow on so many days is really appealing to me. Plus summers are really nice. Damn-8 more work days-and I'm waiting for HR to mess this up......gotta baby sit every process. Taxes in VT are really high though. Here, a big chunk of my retirement income is exempt from state income taxes and property taxes in my town are not bad at all.
  19. I remember you strongly advising me to rid our flat roof of our old home of snow and shovel the deck. I was 10 years younger-easier in those days.
