  1. Yea, but at least in those cases D.C. usually has white rain or another form of mix, sleet or non accumulating snow. In this case, absolutely zero wintry precipitation of any kind in city. And You could tell this morning it was too warm in city, and that you’d have to travel far, far outside the beltway for that to change. I guess occasionally you see nothing but a driving rain downtown while Rockville gets 5 inches but I really can’t think of that many times where it plays out like that.
  2. No precipitation yet downtown dc. People walking around with spring jackets on. Really doesn’t seem like accumulating snow is possible even up at end of the Red line (Shady Grove) but good luck
  3. Surprised to go outside just now to discover, even in Downtwon D.C., there is still some ice building up on trees and elevated metal surfaces
  4. Downtown DC just flipped back to snow. Huge flakes in this band.
  5. Anyone know what DCA has? At this point, the goal of DC region should be to try to stay #1 in the snowiest East Coast big city competition. Will be hard to stay ahead of Boston as we head into March, but perhaps NYC and Philly remain beatable
  6. Doug Kammerer from NBC 4 reports the change over to sleet has occurred at his house in Bethesda..
  7. Really lightening up downtown. Looks like 2 inches. Roads caved earlier but salted streets now quickly melting.
  8. I’m estimating about 1.5 inches has fallen downtown
  9. LWX just tweeted that the sleet line is rapidly advancing north
  10. Light snow started about 15 min ago Downtown DC. Not accumulating yet.
  11. I actually think last-minute forecast semantics in a storm like this a bit ridiculous. Fact is most nornal people really don’t differentiate between 2 and up to 5. Less than 2 they would consider a bust. More than 5 they would consider surprising but not end of world considering it will be raining by late afternon. More than 8 would start to be viewed as upward bust.
  12. Toppper on Channel 9 DC now just going with 1 to 3 in DC Metro and Baltimore, with 3 to 5 north and west. He cites “sleet” as reason he’s lowering totals..
  13. What happened near Fredericksburg Virginia that was supposed to be the bullseye?
  14. After stopping for an hour, Light snow has returned to the District for a final dusting
  15. National Airport has 9.8 as of an hour ago, per Capital Weather Gang.
  16. The intensity of this evening snow in DC clearly caught a lot of people off guard, rightly or wrongly. Just walked 20 blocks —- whereas city snow plows were lined up on every few blocks before the first flake fell yesterday, didn’t see one this evening. And major hotels and business that usually have an army of workers at the ready to clear each 1/2 inch off sidewalks, had completely snow-packed sidewalks.
  17. Looking at radar, It’s starting to look like the afternoon DC snow party is about to come to end.
  18. Not sure about airports, but I think Downtown and Midtown DC could too.
  19. Really think it’ possible it snowing as hard as it’s been entire storm in dc
  20. I am pretty sure I read somewhere, about 4 pm, that DCA had 7. So should be close to 9 by storm end
  21. This post reminds me of 2010, when there was always debate on here about her forecasts.
  22. Really snowing well downtown dc. Not as heavy as an hour or so ago, but steadily accumulating. Will this pivot?
  23. Visibility downtown is currently only a block to block and a half.
