  1. Hooray! Finally mixed out most of the smoke. And even had a decent sunset for once. Good thing as the pattern looks to get wet again. Local sunset... Beginning of post sunset color... Extent of post sunset color... That's All Folks...
  2. Been trying to get an image that shows the effect of all the smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Kind of hard to do. The satellite images do it better justice. But this evening A got two sort of decent images. In this one the sun is orange from all the smoke on the horizon while the clouds overhead are still white where you are looking through less smoke... In this one you can actually see the smoke in the blue part of the sky. Hopefully the reduction to fit on the server does no squash it...
  3. ^ You are welcome, but the farmers here are not too keen on accepting your gift.
  4. ^ Does that mean the Post Office is under water? Fourth and Washington is two blocks further away from the river from the Post Office.
  5. I get nervous when tail-end Charlie of a line is about to pass overhead.
  6. Kind of threading the needle this evening. Had a little break right around sunset. Local sunset...
  7. The unofficial start of summer. The Indianapolis 500 is history and written in the books. Fire up the grills and put the tops down on the convertibles. Had a great day behind the viewfinder again here in Indiana. Started off with a vivid rainbow... The sunset... A close-up of the max color dynamics... Stick a fork in it. This evening is over...
  8. Got to love Mother Natures alarm clock. Took two close lightning strikes and had a fair blow. Think I will try and go back to sleep now. I had no intensions of getting up this early. It is my day off.
  9. Two shots from the pre-sunset this evening. Looking south west... Looking north east...
  10. I felt bad for the horse. You could see it had no problems with vehicles. But something going on with that guy in front of that other car really had the horse's attention as it drew close. Looks like the guy was fighting with a tripod. Was it a bang or clatter from it? Or was the guy on a Bluetooth phone and Reed Timmering and yelling at someone else. What ever something momentarily startled the horse and it sort of/ kind of lost it's gait for a nanosecond, but recovered well. Things like that can hurt a horse.
  11. Sky conditions around sunset this evening...
  12. This evening had a little bit of cirrus. A lot of contrail remnants. One or two recent contrails. But what I was really trying to image was a slight sun pillar. Hopefully you can see it.
  13. 0.58 in my tippy bucket from this mornings rain. While get to add more tomorrow. Anybody breaking out the cubit measuring stick yet?
  14. Yes and no. Clear as mud, right? Actually all the genetics are more to take full advantage of a full growing season. If things gets too late, the crop is getting the wrong conditions at the wrong time. If the root structure is not fully developed before the August/September hot and dry happen the crop will have reduced yields. To make matters worse, if it really starts getting late they (the farmers) will have to get in the fields regardless of soft conditions and that will exasperate compactions and reduce yields. Then things will be later. And later harvest time means a better chance of more soft conditions. Can you see how the snowball just keeps getting worse yet?
  15. Looking southeast when I got to the pond this evening. Was the backside of the dryline that moved through earlier... Here is a view to the east but in this one I used the GND filter. You can tell from the increased contrast in the image... Post sunset color, what little there was...
  16. Yep it is May in Indianapolis. Just had 0.79 in the tippy bucket in the last hour. Big fat droplets. Little bit of wind to keep it interesting.
  17. Another night that looked almost like a carbon copy of the previous evening. Only this time there were a lot of fishermen out at the pond. Trouble was they brought their non-fishing kids with them. The kids were taking sticks and constantly whacking at the algae. Kind of messed up the reflections. Pre-sunset... Post-sunset...
  18. I see what you did there. May the force be with you... lol
  19. Last image for this page, I think. I was late getting out to the pond but it was a still evening and made for a nice reflection...
  20. I was at work when that MCS rolled through but there was 0.85 in the tippy bucket when I got home. Lots of leaves liberated from the trees also. Must have been a decent blow.
  21. Indiana does not look too shabby also. Thank you Illinois for sharing your clouds with us so those of us east of you have nice sunsets too. You can see the progression of the sunset in my Clouds thread in the photography section if you want.
  22. Went through the whole color wheel on the sunset again this evening. The first two images were with the 16-35mm. The second two with the 24-70mm. The white, when I got out to the pond... The yellow and the beginning of the post sunset... The orange... And the red...
  23. lol. 82 at LAF while it is 52 at ORD. Guess you should not have moved up north.
  24. Well I lost the race this time. The upper level low finally got out of the area but about an hour too soon to get any sunset color. But I did get out to the pond in time to catch a cloud or two before they evaporated in the dry air. Looking east when I got out to the pond... And some cloud shadows looking west...
  25. Tonight was another race with the intruding dry air and the receding system. A sunset overview at 16mm... The sunset at 35mm... Post-sunset color at 100mm...
