Today with all the rain and storms to come, I figured there was zero chance of any sunset action. After eating dinner I went outside to get the trash ready for tomorrow when I noticed some pink off to the east. walked around the side of the house and then sprinted back into the house to grab the camera. Some red sneaking above the IGA store across the street... Looking down the street to the west with all the trees and wires in the way....

Nice sunset this evening. I thought there should have been some sundogs but they never appeared... Close to local sunset... What little color there was post sunset...

Frosted? They're Great!

Back from vacation. Not much to the sunset but it is good to get back into the groove...

Could not leave on some vacation without sneaking in a sunrise at the start. I do like starting with the reds... And then ending with the yellows....

Had a nice evolution for the sunset this evening. Started off at local sunset with the 16-35mm... Around max dynamics with the 16-35mm... Switched over to the 24-70mm for the last two images. Needed at little extra reach and both are around 46mm... Last image is the incidental light. Had a touch of red/maroon at the top... Made for a great end of the work week for me.

Tonight was all about the 100mm. Looking east at sunset and had some nice cotton candy colors... West was nothing special but I will show what little color there was...

Some faint, very faint cloud shadows this evening post sunset...

Tonight will show how different lens can change the color of an image. Starting off with the 100mm and no cropping to the image... Two minutes later took this with the 16-35mm and a lot of cropping... What a difference in the color of the image. Yes the light changed a bit in the two minutes, but that much? Naw.

A nice sunrise this morning with the encroaching cirrus from the approaching system. The deep maroons as the color gets started... As the reds started to spread to the west, max dynamics... Local sunrise as the colors begin to get blasted away...

These are from last night, 2-23. I was lazy and did not get them off of the card until tonight. When I got out to the pond, some expansive white... Close to local sunset. The contrast is a bit over the top but I still like the image... Post sunset color. Plus I got to play with some reflections. The water was not perfect but I still had fun...

This morning there was a very short period of color pre-sunrise. With the 100mm... This second image was taken less than a minute later. Changing the orientation put some brighter sky at the top of the image. That increased the contrast which really changed the color. Funny how the color balance can be so fooled...

The Sun is hitting the horizon as I drive home from work now. Today I ran into the house and just took some shots from the corner of the yard. The good news is that the clouds were northwest of me and that is the one direction that has the most open sky from my place. The orange as I just got home... What little red there was a little bit later...

Yesterday was a departing system. Today was an approaching system. They look completely different. Started off with a decent sundog on the south side of the Sun... An overview of the encroaching clouds... Here I took a shot like the final one of yesterday so you can compare and contrast... I was starting to get rather chilled and headed to the car when the Sun popped out for a final call. Took this next to the car...

Departing systems are always a timing issue. This evening it was close. About the brightest the colors got... And the deepest the colors got...

This evening as all about the 24-70mm. Had some clouds scraping by to the south. Needed the extra reach. With the pond still iced over, no need to mess with filters and reflections. So I could concentrate on just color and correct exposure... Local sunset... What little red there was...

Was not sure if the sunrise would do anything with the retreating clouds but I went out and shivered for a bit just in case. Some sneaky red with the 100mm... Here comes the Sun, with the 100mm... My favorite morning tree with the 16-35mm...

Makes me wonder if it could even be deeper if it wasn't for that other low Fuji'ing around. I bet that flights from Miami to London flights are taking record less time with that 240 mph jet.

^ Thanks. The inversion broke down this afternoon and gave me something other than 100% stratus. Looking southwest when I got out to the pond. Please forgive the truck on the left side of the image but it is interstate I-65 and is kind of a busy road and not so easy to get images without vehicles... The breeze made it rather uncomfortable sitting right on the ater so I went back to the car to warm up. A ragged piece of the inversion drifted into a good area of the sky and I stepped out of the car and took this... The post sunset color as nothing special but better than nothing...

All you weenies wanting winter weather are nuts. All frozen precipitation sucks. And freezing rain on top of sleet is the worst of the bunch. Start up the calliope and "All Skate" around here when I was heading home from work.

Could you share an article that explains this Cobb Method. I have looked in search engines but only come up with Spine angles, water absorption of paper products and some multicollinearity in some economic functions.

Just saw a small V of sandhill cranes heading towards the north just a bit ago. It was not the whole vanguard but just the advance team getting things ready. Good to know we are heading in *that* direction.
