  1. The only good news to all this smoke is that you can shoot straight into the Sun and not worry about lens flares. Other than that, it is boring.
  2. A local bell-weather, Ice Cream Paradise closed it doors this week. A sure sign of the coming of winter.
  3. Yeah it is just a little parched here in my county. Another T last night which does not helps things at all. Ground is concrete hard in my yard.
  4. I can but I do not know what a post about TS Isaias from August 4th has to do with winter.
  5. Smoke plume sunset tonight. Orange post sunset... Beginning of the red.... End of the red.... Cheers!
  6. I see KDEN's biggest 24 hour change was 93 to 43. Impressive. Nothing like going from shorts and no shirt to winter parka in 24 hours.
  7. Meanwhile on the other side of the front, 90 at KIND today and have had 0.01 and two T's the last week and a half.
  8. Knew that the sunset would be brief and muted due to all the *stuff* west of me, so I just stayed home and did not go out to the pond. From the bank parking lot... And ended at the Courthouse square...
  9. Plenty of clouds with just a little color this evening. The last I as going to see of the Sun for the day... Made the reflection image of the night a black and white because the blues were going crazy. Looked a lot better eliminating the color... The last image of the night I am proud of for how I took the image. I had packed everything up for the evening and had turned around to walk back to the car when I looked over the shoulder and saw this. I took this handheld, holding the tripod off of the ground. Surprised just how sharp it was when taken at 1/20th of a second. Have to pat myslef on the back for not missing this... Cheers!
  10. My idea of the perfect ending to the unofficial end of summer. Out taking cloud pics from sun-up to sun-down. When I got to the pond looking south. And for comparison for a future image... First look west with small cloud shadows... As the Sun heads for the horizon... For comparison with the first image. The best color was to the east and south... Last image of the night is from more to the east... Cheers!
  11. Went out for the sunrise again this morning. Just going to start with the max dynamics. Some sort of vague yellow crepuscular rays going on also... As the reds fade and the yellows dominate... And going to finish with the start of the sunrise on the horizon...
  12. Going to start missing sunsets soon with so many diners with reduced hours. Tonight I was only able to take shots from next door at the bank and at the Courthouse square. From the bank parking lot... From the Courthouse square...
  13. Kind of figured that tonight would be a bust. But it was a very close thing. When I got out there, looking to the south... Best I could do with the color. It was obviously red but just on the other side of the cloud layer. Gave a creepy pink cast to the sky...
  14. Another vivid night at the pond. The yellow with a diffuse cloud shadow in the center of the image... The orange with an even more vague cloud shadow on the left side of the image... The beginning of the red... The end of the red... Even the incidental light looked good... Good night my darlin', wherever you are...
  15. I bet their grass is greener than Kitchener's also.
  16. First I did the sunrise, now I am going to do a sunset. My way of celebrating summer, a two fisted affair. This first image is just for comparison. Hard to believe that this is what preceded the rest... Right around sunset... Hard to believe but to get from that first image to this is pretty amazing. The backside of the cloud shield got just close enough in Illinois to give me this... Some nice cloud shadows in the top and bottom cloud layer as the color was fading... Cheers!
  17. And now for something completely different, a sunrise. Of course they are in reverse so it starts with the red... And here is the Sun...
  18. Looking southwest when I got out to the pond this evening... The beginning of the post sunset color... The beginning of the red... Going vertical to try and shove more red into the frame... Last of the red on the horizon... Cheers!
  19. It was another one of *those* nights. Glad I took a trip out to the pond. Well worth the effort. Just going to start with a bang and begin with the star of the yellow post sunset... Moving right along to both the orange and the yellow... And the finest of the night with the yellow, orange and the red/violet... As the red heads to the horizon... Even the incidental light looked fantastic this evening... Good night my darlin', wherever you are....
  20. After dinner I sa that the better color would be towards the south. So I grabbed the camera, hopped in the car and tried to find a spot fast. Stopped in a church parking lot[ but the trees on the southern edge were too tall and blocking the view. So I got in the car and kept heading south. It was either trees in the way or wires. I ended up driving all the way to the pond and got there right at the peak color. It was all downhill after this image and on this image I had just pulled up left the car running and the door swinging open to get this image looking due south... A late cloud giving me the finger as it slides by to the east...
  21. Cloud cover did a number on KIND today. High was only 83. But the dewpoint has been above 72 since 9 this morning.
  22. I originally thought tonight would be a bust. But as I was leaving the diner, the Sun snuck under the clouds and it turned out to be rather fanciful. I di not have time to drive to the pond though. Just ran home grabbed the camera and hobbled a block to the other side of the bank. Plopped the camera down in the middle of the road and snapped this... Then I hobbled another block west to the Courthouse Square and opened the 16-35mm all the way open to 16mm and got this... The red flash looking due west straight down the street... And the extreme post sunset colors as the lights of the Square were taking over... Good night my darlin' , wherever your are...
