Woah. A cloud on the western horizon during sunset. I almost forgot what that was like. It was only a small cloud but still oodles more than the recent trend. Close to local sunset. Taken with the 100mm... Post sunset and hat little red there was. Taken with the 100mm... Cheers!

Tonight was all about the 100mm. All images were taken with that lens. There was some actual clouds looking to the south when I got out to the pond... No clouds looking to the west but a nice bronze moment... On the visual satellite it looked like there as no smoke in the area. But off to the west I definately could see some smoke post sunset...

Back-lit Morning Glories have some colors to die for...

Once again, mainly just another smoke night. The dirty gold/bronze hour when I got out to the pond. Taken with the 100mm... As the Sun was dipping behind the billboard I went wide angle to show an overview. Taken ith the 16-35mm at 25mm... When the Sun re-appeared from behind the billboard. I like how the intensity of the light straight on the Sun is still so high it turns what looks red still to straight white while the reflected light on the pond surface is blood red from the extra light scattering from another reflected surface. Taken with the 100mm...

Almost had to put on a jacket taking the sunset pictures this evening. That is almost harsh for the first week in August.

Tonight you could look at smoke. Smoke and some more smoke. Started off with a shot of the Sun. It is shot very dark as I was trying to see if I could see any of the tiny sunspots. The answer was no. But the colors of the reflections seemed to make this interesting enough. Taken with the 100mm and cropped fairly severely... Start of the post sunset... End of the post sunset colored smoke...

Tonight as all about the pre-sunset. Best variation. clouds and color occurred before the Sun set. An overview from hen I got out to the pond. Taken with the 16-35mm at 21mm... More of a symmetry shot. Taken with the 16-35mm at 28mm... To end the night, a vertical orientation. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm...

And if a person does not have a phone/IPad?

I figured tonight would be a race between between the disappearing clouds and sunset. It was. Starting out close to local sunset. Taken with the 16-35mm at 35mm... As the post sunset colors got started. Taken with the 16-35mm at 33mm... Turning to solid orange. Taken with the 16-35mm at 31mm... Here comes the red/pink from overhead and the east. Taken with the 16-35mm at 27mm... Last of the reds on the horizon. Taken with the 24-70mm at 42mm... Cheers!

A summer bloom-to-be...

Back Home Again in Indiana. One of those sunsets that I can not make up my mind which image to share. Too many to choose from. Start off with the look to the southeast when I got out to the pond. Taken ith the 16-35mm at 27mm... First look towards the west. Taken with the 16-35mm at 23mm... Close to local sunset and the gold/bronze moment. Taken with the 16-35mm at 33mm... Beginning of the post sunset with the yellows and orange. Taken with the 16-35mm at 32mm... Ending the night with the red flash. And what a flash it was. taken with the 16-35mm at 35mm... Good night my darlin', where ever you are...

July 21st. I was in central New York and caught these two images around sunset. Looking southwest pre-sunset at some cumulus. Taken ith the 16-35mm at 33mm... Closer to local sunset looking to the south with the Moon and some cotton-candy colored clouds. Taken with the 100mm...

The amount of smoke in the midwest is amazing. The visual satellite is simply saturated close to sunset.

Tonight with that disturbance in Missouri, I was right on the edge of the clearing. Gave me some nice visuals. All images are looking to the northwest. Pre-sunset as I got out to the pond. Taken with the 16-35mm at 29mm... Close to local sunset as the camera says 9:04 and sunset was at 9:10. The Sun was belo the warehouse at least. You can really see the smoke underneath the cirrus still up high. Taken wwith the 16-35mm at 16mm... There was a little bit of red this evening. Not enough to call it a flash, more like a slurp of red. Taken with the 16-35mm at 35mm... Cheers!

It was a smoke sunset this evening. When I got to the pond the Sun had just sunk into the thick smoke on the horizon. Still a dab of hite at the top of the image. Taken with the 16-35mm at 25mm... Close to local sunset as the Sun sink into the warehouse. Instead of a sun pillar this is more a smoke pillar with how red the pillar is. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm... As the post sunset gets going you can see all the smoke. everywhere. Taken with the 16-35mm at 19mm... As the color start to fade, the contrast goes down and the image gets more *even*. Taken with the 16-35mm at 18mm and a little bit of cropping... Cheers!

Best views were towards the south pre-sunset. Because that is where there was some pieces of blue sky. Looking south. Taken with the 16-35mm at 16mm... Looking to the east-southeast. Taken with the 16-35mm at 22mm...

Today was a mixture of periods of rain followed by periods of sunshine. Figured I would head out to the pond in case it timed out decent. Starting off with a gander to the southeast as I got out to the pond. Taken with the 16-35mm at 22mm... First look to the northwest. Various clouds at various heights made for an interesting color combination. Taken with the 16-35mm at 26m... Going vertical just a little bit later. I like the green tint in the middle of the image. The ay you can see the green tinge in the previous image makes me think it was a real color and not a product of the GND/camera interaction. Taken with the 16-35mm at 31mm... Local sunset as the Sun sinks behind the warehouse. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm... Post sunset just before the sprinkles started up again. So the last image of the night before I headed back to the car. Taken with the 24-70mm at 54mm... Cheers!

The error was mine. I see it now. It was just tucked away in the corner and kind of small and I missed it. The old eyeballs aren't quite what they once were.

Doubt anything can be done about this but we used to be able to mark specific areas like "Lakes/ OhioValley" as read while leaving the other areas Like Sports or the Mid-Atlantic alone. Now when you hit mark site as read the whole entire site is blanked out. Just an observation. Or am I missing something?

If that Canadian smoke ever meets up with the Pacific Northwest smoke coming around the ridge out west, it is going to be some very yellow sunsets if this boundary ever gets out of here. On second thought , it is probably better for my lungs and breathing if the smoke stays away.

I thought tonight was going to be a grey out so I did not go out to the pond. Was just sitting on the front steps sawin' on the git-fiddle when the overcast broke and there was this short-lived image of the sky conditions. Taken with the 16-35mm at 18mm...

Had a few clouds and some slight effects this evening. Started off with a cell bubbling up just southeast of me when I had just gotten to the pond. Taken with the 16-35mm at 22mm... Some broad and slight cloud shadows for the first look to the west. Taken with the 16-35mm at 25mm... A little sharper cloud shadow. Taken with the 24-70mm at 57mm... The last of the color just before the Sun raced behind the cloud shield and dimmed the rest of the color for the evening. Taken with the 16-35mm at 25mm... Cheers!

Just two images of close to local sunset this evening. It was very murky out there. A vertical representation... And a horizontal representation...

Now back to the normal. Tonight's sunset. Looking west with the smoke on the horizon and not much in the way of clouds overhead... The better cloud was looking to the south...

Been awhile since I did one of these. Had a family emergency in NY and I have been away and a bit behind in processing images. These two images are from June 26th. Some interesting cloud shadows looking northwest... Still looking northwest with a broader cloud shadow...
