Seeing how I have been in-n-out hiding from the Sun today, figured I would update this thread a bit. Been awhile and really needed to try and knock down the backlog.
From 7-9. Some crepuscular rays. Taken with the 24-70mm at 47mm...
0.58" in the tippy bucket for today. Seems to be close to the radar estimates for the area. After mowing the grass yesterday, this moisture is just going to keep it growing.
I agree. We are almost to the third week of August and the grass is still green and growing here. I am not complaining as I like the smell of fresh cut grass but usually in August we are in the hot and drys here.
7-6
The sunset conditions vertically. Taken with the 24-70mm at 63mm...
The sunset conditions horizontally. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm cropped in camera...
7-3. Back out at the overpass for a normal sunset.
Pre-sunset color. Taken with the 24-70mm at 30mm...
Post sunset color. Taken with the 24-70mm at 45mm...
So far behind. This is from 7-2.
Started out at the overpass here I got this looking southeast and some of the low-topped convection in the area. Taken with the 24-70 at 70mm...
Trouble was there was another batch exactly to the west and I could tell it was going to interrupt the sunset view. So I got back in my car and headed east then north on the back county roads trying to get around the stuff. Ended up catching this very short rainbow segment looking east out in the middle of nowhere. Taken with the 24-70mm at 38mm...
Here is a vertical shot showing the low tops as well. Taken with the 24-70mm at 50mm...
That was entertaining. Usually getting tail end Charlie with a line of thunderstorms means Blustery conditions. Stayed calm here but boy did it rain. My tippy bucket is saying 1.46" with 1.40" of that happening in about 30 minutes. Was raining hard but straight down. Stood outside under an umbrella and watched the storm drains get backed up just from the volume of water coming down the street and the bank parking lot. The streets are semi-dry again but there for awhile the land-sharks were making wakes going to the grocery store.
To be fair, August and September are supposed to be the smokey months. That June smoke was the out-of-box stuff. Very understandable why everyone is sick of it already though.
0.87" of rain with the overnight/early morning convective line. Coupled with the 2.41" from way earlier put the 30 hour total at 3.28". I kind of hit the jackpot as KIND only had 0.58" and KLAF 1.53". Damp here for the moment.
Looks like the total for the morning convection will be 2.41" here. Skies have turned clear blue and now the temps can spike. KLAF's temp graph already looks like a space launch.
Well, that was fun. Morning bike ride got cut short by a slight bowing line segment. Rained extremely hard with just a little wind. So far have had 2.19" with two inches of that in about ten minutes. Was really coming down at a clip.
At 4:15, KIND was under a convective blob and was only 84/79. Meanwhile KLAF was 93/75. I am sitting in the sunshine here and can still see the tops of the blob. Feels closer to LAF's conditions outside.
When I started my morning bike ride at 7:30 it was 77/73. When I finished at 9:00 it was 81/75. I am going to dream of these days come November. Pardon me while I hide in the A/C the rest of the day.
After a week of vacation in central New York, got home last night and had a cell pass over the house. Some house shaking thunder that woke me up. Ended up with 1.55" in the tippy bucket. KIND only reported 0.08". What a welcome back to the midwest.
6-21
A similar sunset just two days later.
Close to sunset. taken with the 24-70mm at 53mm...
Post sunset color with a sliver of the Moon. Just to the left of the Moon is Venus but it probably just looks like a dust spot at this reduced resolution.
