  1. Had some light snow in central NC Dec 4, 2010 WRAL Slideshow... http://www.wral.com/weather/image_gallery/8726144/
  2. Cha-ching. It's in the forecast...bank on it!!! Friday Night A chance of rain before 1am, then a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  3. Saw the first fireflies of the year just now! Also, after sitting empty for nearly 1i years, the bats have finally found the bat house I built and mounted to the garage wall! In the past, we've had 2 or 3 sleeping in the louvered vent at the top of the garage roof, but tonight, I saw 5 of them emerging from their house! Don't know if there were more before I went outside. Kind of exciting.
  4. Blooming azaleas are mush. Rhododendrons are toast. Budded azaleas are freezer burnt. Fortunately, we do have some late season varieties. That's terrible about the peach crop in SC.
  5. Just broke a sweat mowing the winter weeds, pine straw, and the now breaking dormancy zoysia! 81° out there!
  6. Found 2 peach trees in full bloom today. Didn't even know we had any Must be their first year blooming. There used to be a squirrel nest above where they grew - they must have dropped a couple pits. Yep - one of them is growing in an old seed spreader!!! Like CommentShare
  7. totals dropped again... now 1/2"-3/4". Temp lowered as well. Calling for 51 now.
  8. Our 1"-2" overnight has been reduced to 3/4"-1". Previous low temp of 64 is now 55 - the current temp.
  9. 6:00PM --- Fishel said if there's a good snowpack and clear skies Sunday night, we could see ZERO degrees Monday morning. Brrrrrr!
  10. Is this really likely? Meteostar (18z 1/4/17) is showing a high of 8° on Monday and a low of 3° for KJNX (Johnston County(NC) Airport). Is the airmass realy going to be that cold with the expected snowpack? http://wxweb.meteostar.com/sample/sample.shtml?text=KJNX
  11. Deja vu... Monday night/Tuesday Convection over the Gulf Coast and Southeast States could impact the total qpf, something tough to discern this far out.
  12. No - for many reasons. Hundreds of 80' pines on the property, 10s of thousands in the surrounding area. (development was an abandoned tree farm). On a well - power out, no water. Wife's medical situation - should she have another seizure or stroke or worse, lack of transportation. I hate the cleanup involved. I hate using a chain saw. I hate Winter for my own medical situation... had experimental chemotherapy at NIH in the early 80's, and one of the side effects from that is total numbness in the toes, fingers and other extremities when it gets below 45 or so when outside for any length of time. No studded tires or cleats for shoes It confuses the cats. I think that's all for now
  13. Thought this was pretty cool - from www.Jayski.com this morning
  14. I just want to add my thanks and gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this obviously unique thread, and especially to MoJo, who I only know through the postings. All of the reflections, memories, updates, and the renewed spirit of moving forward have really been an eye opener - a good one.
