  1. Looking forward to the brief round of flurries tomorrow evening, after sunset.
  2. Pretty spring-like looking sky this afternoon with stratocumulus slowly building up into more convectivy looking towers. Band of low-topped convection developed nearly on top of us in the past hour. Pretty entertaining little evolution.
  3. Picked up 1.62" yesterday/early this morning. Worked out well as it looks like the next wave will miss east later today/tonight.
  4. Looks like the main slug of wraparound snows will come Mon night. Hopefully we'll get to see snow fall during the daytime sometime before April.
  5. Yeah came down nicely this morning. Picked up just under an inch. Pretty foggy out there now.
  6. The secondary wave on the new 3km NAM looks pretty sweet. Impressive area of heavy snow up in Wisconsin with that by the end of the run. Wish the wave would deepen about 12hrs earlier though so northern IL would get in on that lol.
  7. You guys have already done a good job pointing out all the stuff from this year/this decade. The most notable thing this year for me was the incredible cold that hit in January. We've had some very stout arctic air masses in the past 10 years, but that one was the harshest, most impressive one I've ever been through. MLI hit -33, and just up the river at Sterling they hit -35. And of course the wind chills that were down in the -50s the night before that.
  8. Big slap in the face this afternoon with the heavy overcast that rolled in, and temps that dropped into the 30s. Not that cold obviously, but compared to the past several days it was pretty chilly. MLI has had 5 days in a row of 50+.
  9. It's just after midnight but the temp is still warm enough that the record high at MLI for today is already tied at 56. Cool front will pass and knock temps back later this morning, so another 60+ day is out of the question.
  10. MLI hit 62 today for the 2nd 60+ day in a row. Incredible 2-day stretch for the holidays. Even this evening it was nice to be outside as temps are still holding in the 50s.
  11. Already 52 at MLI at 10am. 60+ and a new record looking like a lock. This will be the first time ever that it hit 60 degrees on Christmas eve and Christmas day back to back.
  12. Very nice. I'm still stuffed from earlier, and seeing that still makes my mouth water lol. Merry Christmas everyone! EDIT: MLI ended up hitting 61 today.
  13. Very impressive. Temps overachieved today, even with the thin cirrus streaming overhead. Mid 60s tomorrow?
  14. Looks like a windy rainer this weekend instead of just a rainer. A few backside flurries would be nice.
  15. Temp already 53 at MLI at 11am, which is 8 degrees ahead of yesterday when they hit 52. Could make a run at 60 today, but the record is out of reach (65). Tomorrow 60+ is looking like a lock if clouds don't COC block things.
  16. The updated (FV3) GFS is the Mitch Trubisky of forecast guidance. The Euro is Tom Brady. The GEM and ICON are Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tim Tebow.
  17. Didn't realize how warm Christmas has been lately. Wednesday will mark the 4th out of the last 6 Christmases at MLI AOA 50 degrees. 2014 hit 50, 2016 hit 56, 2018 hit 50, and this Christmas it looks to make a run at 60. Pretty crazy. I guess next year I'll just assume December will be another dud, and look forward to another warm Christmas. Seems to be the new norm.
  18. DVN upped the point to 57 for Christmas day. Maybe 60 is attainable? Gonna have to wear an ugly Christmas tank top instead of a sweater lol. EDIT: Record high at MLI for Christmas day is 59. The Euro shows 55 for a high, and it's been under doing temps by several degrees. For example it only has upper 40s for today, when mid 50s look likely. Looks like a good chance for a new record, and the first 60 degree day for Christmas.
  19. This will be a nice wash all the salt off the roads system.
  20. 12z GFS says congrats to the Iowa crew for the weekend system. Too bad it's the GFS beyond 36hrs..
  21. According to the NWS point forecast we won't be going back down to, or below freezing through at least next Sunday. Looks like mid 50s the next 3 days. DVN at only 0.14" precip for the month, 0.18" here.
  22. I'm getting a new yard stick in preparation for The Jan slam about to come.
  23. Looks like the next system of consequence will be next weekend. Looks like it may be a rainer for most of us, but at least it's something.
  24. Have a few 50 degree days in the point early next week. With the ground being pretty dry maybe we can get some over-achieving temps.
  25. 18z GFS has a nice hit for Hawkeye around the 270hr mark. Yeah it's about two weeks away, but that's about all there is to talk about lol.
