    Wind is ripping straight away from my perspective in this pic. Nary a flake has managed to stick to the picnic table top today. Nice sculpted drifts surround it.

    Freezing rain and sleet is mixing in now. Still mostly snow, but the transition has begun.

    Averaging just over 4" here now. Nice dendrites now with this enhanced band moving through. Wind is really scouring the snow away from certain areas.

    Cedar Rapids/Iowa City/Burlington all reporting freezing rain at the new 6pm ob. Freezing rain/sleet should be into the QC by 7, and here shortly thereafter. Still high-end moderate snow here atm.

    If we can lay down a good dusting to half inch of snow tomorrow morning that could make for some wicked blowing snow out in open country. The current snowpack will have a nice smooth top for the new snow to blow off of. Last winter we had a very minor dusting following a crust-over event and it made for a very nasty blowing snow situation.

    Was pretty entertaining watching the snow roll in earlier. Could see the tree line in the south and west horizon start to disappear before flakes had reached our location at work. A few minutes later it was ripping quite nicely. Still all snow here, and it looks like about 3" or so. Should get another hour or so of pure snow before mixing issues arise. So, looks like we should end up close to 4".

    HRRR looking good. Looks like a wall of snow hits the QCA around 1pm. Looks like a solid 4" type storm, but if we can stay in the snow long enough more than that is possible. Gonna come down to how long we can keep heavier precip around, as once the lighter stuff moves in that will be the end of the snow. Tomorrow's winds are going to be legit. Several hours of 50mph wind gust potential.

    Shows 6-8" of snow along/north of I-80. Wow.

    RGEM can sometimes seem almost too aggressive with WAA during precip events, so the fact that it's keeping things as snow longer is a good sign. By the time the precip begins to mix up most of the heavier QPF will have fallen. Gonna ride my 3-5" call, which is pretty in line with DVN.

    Liking the chances for a good 3-5" of snow with nice rates for here/QC area. The thermal ridge with the mixed precip types may compact/melt some of what falls, but vigorous CAA kicks in Sat morning and will stop that. Looks like some 50mph wind gust potential on Sat in the midst of that strong CAA.

    Looks like DVN hoisted a winter storm watch for the whole cwa. Should rip pretty good Fri afternoon/early eve before the pingers take over.

    A high-end event to be sure relative to this year. Breaching the 1" barrier is equivalent to a warning criteria event in most years.

    DVN has 100% snow in the point for here. Interesting. Friday Snow, mainly after 7am. High near 32. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. Friday Night Snow. Low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Saturday Snow, mainly before 1pm. High near 34. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

    This feels like an Arkansas winter. Hopefully that means we'll get a late Jan/February tornado outbreak to top it off.

    A 4" event would be top tier this season. Take what we can get lol.

    Our massive 1" snowpack took a hit overnight as temps ascended into the mid 30s. Now just some white patches scattered about the brown landscape.

    Yep, this is gonna be a good one. So nice to see a spread the wealth type system again on the models. Liking the probs for a sig event for the DVN/LOT cwas.

    I actually have a decent feeling about this system, although maybe that's because I'm getting over a bout of bad food poisoning.

    Snow winding down. Looks like about an inch. On a positive note it was nice to see some daytime snow.

    Freezing drizzle most of the day, with a few spits of snowflakes now and again. Light snow moved in about an hour ago. Looks like a good dusting so far.

    Ohare gusting to 48mph, and MKE gusting to 52mph as of 5am. Guessing even higher gusts right on the shoreline. Revising my first call of 2-5" for here/QC down to 1-3". Picked up 0.74" of rain for the event total. Significantly less than what models had forecast for days.
