  1. Got down to 48 this morning here, which is the first sub 50 degree low since late May, and the coolest since May 13th.
  2. I'd like to know why the rear-inflow jet seemed to be basically at ground level. I know there's been instances of long-lasting high winds, but I think that is usually over a smaller swath closer to the parent mesovortex. I read somewhere that this almost seemed comparable to an HP supercell with a powerful RFD. In this case the RFD was extremely large. We didn't get the extreme of Cedar Rapids, but I'll never forget the 1hr+ of non-stop severe level winds.
  3. Yeah I've never seen anything higher than 80 mph in person, so it's sort of a guessing game above that for me.
  4. That gust at 16:15 is just incredible. That had to be over 100mph. I've watched that part of the vid numerous times and the gust hits so hard it almost sends chills down my spine.
  5. Definitely lucked out. Don't wanna see anything that super crazy ever IMBY.
  6. Amazing. New info from the DVN page.. A swath of damage from Benton County, through portions of Linn, Jones, and Cedar Counties, is consistent with intermittent winds in the 110-130 mph range. A radio transmission tower north of Marion, Iowa in Linn County collapsed, due to straight line winds estimated around 130 mph. This speed would be equivalent to a strong EF2 tornado. The maximum measured wind gust was 112 mph at Midway, Iowa in Linn County. One storm-related fatality has been reported so far. That area where 130 mph winds were estimated north of Marion is right where the highest velocities showed up on that radar time lapse I made the other day. So it was actually even worse just north of Cedar Rapids. If that would have moved through the heart of CR things could have been even worse, which is pretty crazy to think about.
  7. Nice map put out today by the DVN NWS.
  8. I believe statute of limitations for warning points is 11 years.
  9. Impressive. It was 107 already at 9am, and 120 by noon. https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mesowest/timeseries.php?sid=DEVC1&num=72&banner=gmap&raw=0&w=325
  10. Incredible video. Like so many have stated, it looks like you're watching hurricane video due to the longevity of it. Besides the wind being much stronger, another big difference between there and here was how much more heavy rain was falling simultaneous with the very high winds. Here it was mostly light rain during 80% of the highest winds. EDIT: That gust at 16:17 was incredible.
  11. Spent some time this morning making a time lapse of the derecho from the DVN radar. On the 2nd time through the base reflectivity I put the storm reports in. It's pretty cool to see the tornado reports pop up as the derecho crosses I-39 in IL.
  12. Unfortunately we don't have any active participants on this site from DVN like in the past. I'm sure they browse the site and lurk in the shadows, but aren't members. Would be interested to see why there won't be any surveying.
  13. Time lapse from Monday. Might take a bit for 4K to be available, as sometimes it takes an hour or so to be fully ready. Shot at wide angle, so looks best on full screen. EDIT: I left in a decent amount of footage before the storm hit to illustrate how nice and peaceful the day had been. Storm hits around 2 min mark.
  14. Power came back on about 10am, so total outage was about 92hrs. Working on time lapse now. Made it to 88 here, but not too humid.
  15. Here's a vid from a little northwest of here near Fulton. Lots of trees blocking the main route north/south. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3469861626392139&id=100001050069622
  16. Nice! I was too chickenshit to watch out the west facing window, so I watched out the front (east side). It was quite still and very warm/humid as the shelf cloud rolled in overhead. Then there was a slight bit of breeze and a slight feeling of cooler air, perhaps 15mph wind as things began to stir. You could really sense the tension, something big was coming. Then the main wind hit so fast it startled me, even though I was ready for it. BAM!!! The front tree bent way over and looked like it was about to shear right off, but luckily it held. That same initial gust destroyed the neighbor across the street's walnut tree. After that first big gust it stayed pretty windy, but sort of run-of-the-mill squall line stuff- 50-55mph. The heavy rain hit but the winds didn't really get much stronger, still 50-55mph type stuff. It was after the heavy rain from the squall line moved on when the consistent 60-70mph winds rolled in. It really reminded me of how it's like when you get strong wake low winds. Very strong winds with light rain falling after the main storm, but in this case the winds were still from the same direction, and WAY stronger than a wake low wind event. That continued for a good 45 minutes before finally winding down.
  17. Yeah salvaged some items with a big cooler and free ice from the gas station which was cool of them ( no pun intended lol). Com Ed still has 11pm tomorrow night restoration estimate. There was a very large uprooted tree that took down the wires a few streets over that had laid untouched until today. The tree is now gone but all the wires are still spaghetti'd through several front yards. I'm guessing that's the last holdup.
  18. Yeah as bad as it was here in the QCA it was way worse there. We prob topped out around 75mph max here, maybe 80, and CR was at or over 100mph which is a huge difference damage wise.
  19. Gotta wait till power comes back lol
  20. All the neighbors do. The fridge/freezer stuff is history. Will prob invest in a cheap one to at least keep that going for next time.
