  1. Temp up to 32 with freezing rain still holding on marginally. Guessing at least a good 1/4" of glaze here on top of the other stuff. Wondering how areas just south did on glazing, in areas that didn't get the crazy sleet storm and had less snow before the changeover. Wouldn't be surprised if a fairly serious area of glazing took place just south of here along that northeast/southwest axis. MLI picked up 0.82" of precip after they changed over to primarily freezing rain.
  2. A steady moderate freezing rain continues. Glazing has been pretty efficient up until now with temps below 30. If this were to continue all night we'd have a real problem on our hands. Luckily temps should get up to near melting by 1-2am. At the least it should slow down the efficient accrual. The combination of the 4.5" if snow and almost 1.5" of sleet makes for about 6" of snow/sleet on the ground now. This has definitely been an entertaining system I'll give it that.

  4. Pure freezing rain now with very little or no sleet. Looks like several hours of that to go.
  5. 12" report just southwest of CR (3 miles east-northeast of Fairfax).
  6. Been doing just that. Just did the front walk and patio. The sleet weighed as much or more than the snow from earlier lol. Finally down to just moderate sleet now.
  7. One hell of a sleet storm going on here. At least an inch of sleet, with most of it in the past 30 minutes. Just a sleet deluge with intermittent huge flakes and still some freezing rain. Never seen anything like this.
  8. Moderate freezing rain with heavy sleet, and even some big wet flakes again. Pretty wild out there right now under this heavy band.
  9. 50/50 sleet/frz rain here. Temp up to 28. Even though we didn't get the deep snows all this sleet and frz rain is making our 4.5" snowpack into a formidable glacier.
  10. Very nice. Up to 20" for the season. That's doing great considering how this season has gone so far.
  11. Feels like I'm in LAF on 2/1/11. Raging sleet shower right now hammering the east windows.
  12. Yeah it did. It had been consistently holding it just south of here until 9-10pm, but it did correct northward with yesterday's runs. HRRR seemed to do real well here with the timing of the changeover, with the Euro/RGEM right there as well. I stopped looking at the NAM after it was being so pessimistic run to run lol.
  13. Interesting special weather statement from DVN a shot while ago.
  14. Mostly freezing rain with a few pingers now here. Went out and removed the snow before it became encased in a crusty layer. Picked up 4.5" snow.
  15. Down to light snow now here, and MLI has shifted over to freezing rain. Would have loved for it to last longer, but that was a very nice thumping over the past few hours.
  16. Impressive amount of lightning showing up. Wow.
  17. Very low vis in heavy snow atm. Looks like a good 3-4" down already. Blowing around more than I thought it would.
  18. I'm assuming a lot of that is sleet along the southeast side of that. Nice to see but no way we're getting 10" of snow.
  19. New RGEM brings sleet in here/QC 3hrs earlier than previous runs. I'm sticking with my previous call even though it might go down in flames lol.
  20. Feeling pretty good about a quick 5-6" before quick shift to sleet. HRRR drops 1.5" precip so could get quite the sleet storm tomorrow eve before changing to frz rain/rain.
  21. Thanks for deflating my balloon lol. I'm gonna fine tune my earlier 3-6" call to 5-6".
  22. One of the short-term models that has a tendency to be one of the leaders in calling out stronger than expected WAA is the RGEM. It's been consistently further southeast of some other guidance for numerous runs so I'm going to take that as a good sign.
  23. HRRR has the party over by 6pm in the QC as sleet moves in. Luckily should snow fairly heavily for several hrs before that happens. Would def like to be further nw where there's a better shot at warning criteria. If we can delay WAA long enough still can't rule it out here though.
  24. I'm riding the 2.5km RGEM lol. In all seriousness I'll just go with a general 3-6" for here/QC in agreement with DVN. Hawkeye and crew should clean up again with 8"+ looking quite likely.
  25. Picked up 0.7" of snow. Nice to see it look white out there finally.
