  1. Finally getting some decent rain in the Lehigh Valley today. Gonna need a bit more of this if the grass is going to turn green again.
  2. Really fun storm in Bethlehem. Small branches down everywhere from 40-50 mph gusts, and we even got some dime sized hail.
  3. Day 3 slight risk for much of PA. Looks like Wednesday could get a bit interesting.
  4. Why are there so many snow reports on mPING around the area today? Did Gettysburg baseball sized hail guy get some friends?
  5. Got some thundershowers rolling through the Lehigh Valley this evening. The cooler temperatures feel amazing.
  6. The problem with KDOX is while it covers Philly well enough, it’s a little far from the Lehigh Valley. Same with BGM and CCX. DIX is the only radar that’s close enough to my place in Allentown. Of course it would really help if we filled the I-81 radar gap too.
  7. KDIX radar went down this morning. Always seems to happen when we have a chance of precip. Never during extended dry periods.
  8. I remember that heat wave. I hope I never have to feel heat like that again. The temperature - not heat index, but actual air temperature - got to 104 or 105 at its hottest. And I was living without AC at the time in a bedroom that faced west. Not fun at all.
  9. Not bad at all today. High around 90 with dews in the mid-upper 60s. It’s actually pretty comfortable in the shade. Tomorrow and Saturday, and possibly Sunday too, look like some pretty brutal days before we get some relief on Monday.
  10. This week is hot but not unbearably hot like it is in some parts of New England. We see this type of heat for at least a week or two every year. In New England, though, they’re smashing all time record highs.
  11. Models have been trending away from the week of extreme heat around here and giving New England the brutally hot temps instead. It’ll still be hot but nothing really crazy. And the humidity looks to be only mildly uncomfortable rather than oppressive.
  12. Not much to write home about in Allentown. Just some sprinkles while lightning flashed in the distance to the north.
  13. Sun is finally out here. Time to see if we can destabilize enough for a decent storm later.
  14. Too many clouds here in the Lehigh Valley. It needs to clear in a hurry or else the evening action could be very underwhelming.
  15. I trust the CAMs (HRRR, 3km NAM) way more to handle storms.
  16. Slept through the storms somehow. Worst of it missed to my north by about 2-3 miles. Looks like much of the northwest side of Allentown is without power. Lots of photos on social media of trees down, some of them big ones.
  17. Sitting on my porch watching some of this lightning to the north. Nice to see some lightning even if the storm is missing me. Hopefully tomorrow brings more storms.
  18. Storms seem to be fizzling before they cross the Susquehanna so far today. Hopefully some can make it into our area later this evening.
  19. The Lehigh Valley is the (un)lucky winner today. A little area of light rain (or heavy mist?) has been training over us for much of the late afternoon. Yet another rainy day. Getting a little sick of this.
  20. Another year, yet another very slow start to thunderstorm season. It’s the middle of May and I can recall just one, maybe two storms here in Allentown. Looks like nothing in the forecast for at least the next week either. I know our peak is usually around July and August but I don’t remember spring being this dead year after year. Glad I’ve started chasing in the plains for a week or two every year because spring has just been boring here.
  21. Clouds have started to clear in the Lehigh Valley. Hoping we get a good aurora show tonight since we couldn’t on Friday.
  22. Seeing everyone else's aurora photos while the Lehigh Valley remains shrouded in clouds is a bit like getting flurries while 20 miles to the southeast is slammed with 2"/hr snowfall rates.
  23. Northern lights will apparently be visible tonight. Too bad none of us will be able to see them. Damn clouds…
  24. First decent storm of the year in Allentown. Gusty winds with some thunder and lightning. Hoping to see much more of this as the year goes on!
