  1. La Nina's almost always lead to great Toledo winters, and prolific early spring flooding. I'd say the sweet spot for Toledo is a 50" winter. Perfect amount of consistent snow cover to allow for ample winter sports, yet at the same time isn't overwhelming. The 86" that fell in 2013-14 was too much. I loved snow but wow was it nearly impossible to get around rural communities that winter.
  2. If you recall as well it was a very warm early Fall and then dropped off the table. The first week of October featured temps around 90
  3. I remember this VIVIDLY. Was in Chicago for the week for work meetings. My beard was absolutely frozen walking around and the lake effect squalls in Indiana made the drive suck. I think Chicago got down to 4° at one point
  4. This is where a lack of rapid testing kills us. IMO there should be ZERO restrictions at this point. Should have testing available before entering stores, restaurants, bars, concerts, games. I know on my iPhone there’s an “Exposure Notification”. Not sure where this is even an option to be honest. It feels so arcane that we have to wear a fricking piece of cloth because we can’t technologically do this right.
  5. Interesting read on ESPN.com http:// https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/30308543/golden-state-warriors-submit-plan-home-game-testing-allow-50-percent-fan-capacity The owner of the Warriors has a Masters in Public Health which is how he came up with this plan. It’s going to be interesting to see if this rapid testing can truly come to fruition and how much life will change once it does. It’s clear that financially these entertainment avenues are getting crushed over this. A lot of money in not only the operation of teams and holding concerts, but the construction as well. I mean heck Little Caesars Arena was almost a billion dollar build
  6. Well liberals will say spend trillions more. Problem is read any serious paper, states are running out of money FAST. My company is worried about the lack of money available for infrastructure projects as the government continues to shell out absurd gobs of money with their tax revenues declining due to this. What happens when the dust settles? We’re going to have to raise interest rates and taxes considerably on all people to make up for the extreme level of government spending to get through this pandemic. Can’t throw away the entire 2020’s for this
  7. How much longer can these companies go without receiving rent? Also go bleep yourself dude
  8. Guys Shelter-In-Place is not a viable option. Definitely not a great time to be going out and doing things, but you’d have a Depression-era level wave of evictions and homelessness in this country if this were to occur. The NY Times ran a recent article saying as many as 13 million people are receiving emergency assistance from the government at this time. If we go back to April-type restrictions those less fortunate are finished financially. It’d be hard to “Shelter in Place” if you have no shelter. It’s a wartime mentality that this country needs to accept. Limit your casualties and keep moving forward as macabre as that is
  9. Oh believe me I know, I spent quite a bit of my life fishing in the Western Basin
  10. 54 degree water temp in mid November is impressive for Cleveland. Hell even here the ocean is still 70 off Folly Beach so the fact that lake temps in November aren't far off ocean temps is wild. Could lead to an epic & snowy winter, bad winters almost always follow active Hurricane seasons
  11. Was chatting on the phone with one of my friends today who didn’t work all last week. He got a sinus infection and because of the symptoms, couldn’t work until he had a test with results (came back negative). This could be a real problem this winter, especially in the Midwest. You’re liable to get 2-3 sinus infections/colds a winter. In this current climate no way is anyone going to let you work with a runny nose and fever. Could have massive amounts of call offs affect things around the Holidays
  12. Between all the Biden celebrations and Notre Dame storming the field I’d say Covid-19 was the real winner today
  13. In your opinion do you think future restrictions will be this intense? I’m flying into Detroit on Dec 20th thru the 6th for the Holidays. I hope we don’t have Christmas actually cancelled
  14. Honestly that gets us to herd immunity by spring if not sooner. As I’ve said before, we’ve never defeated a pandemic any other way sadly. A vaccine would be awesome but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be ready in time
  15. What a stretch of weather for NW Ohio upcoming. 70s with sunshine thru Wednesday? Have to love the occasional November round of golf. Before I moved I played a few rounds in February as well. Have to love a long season of golf for Northern OH
  16. Interesting stats from the BBC News. https://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2020-54783016 In their exit polling the Coronavirus ranked 3rd at the issue that mattered most when it came to electing your chosen candidate. 35% said economy, 20% said racial inequality, 17% coronavirus, 11% for crime and safety & 11% for healthcare policy. To me this is really at the heart of what is happening within this country. As easy as it is to point fingers at leaders, we forget that we indeed are in charge. Covid-19 absolutely impacts all of our lives significantly on a daily occurance. The fact that frickin racial inequality was a bigger issue to voters than this is quite telling. By no means am I saying that it isn't an issue, it clearly is a very serious topic. But we have hundreds dying daily & the coronavirus barely beats Crime & safety as an election topic? Regardless of what side of the aisle you're on, it seems apparent based on election results that the American public by and large wants to just let it ride until a vaccine comes out
  17. This is the most true comment ever. Haha I can hear the sound of sleet hitting my roof still as I see the radar and a giant blue swath over Ann Arbor and Detroit still in my head. Hopefully we get some snow around the holidays when I come up to visit
  18. I gotta take my hat off to Mississippi & North Carolina for getting their Rt below 1 at this time. I love looking at that website that shows how this thing has trended, it's obvious the effect SIP had, and then the summer dip as mask wearing became extremely prevalent throughout. I cannot believe the number Michigan registered yesterday, over 6k cases! I know you have the cold weather working against you but good heavens these numbers are terrible.
  19. Wow it’s only a high of 59° in Charleston. Unbelievable cold for this time of year
  20. Wow 20+ footers today on Lake Superior. One of the coolest things about the Great Lakes are days like today with the big fall storms. Btw did anyone see that field goal in the Cleveland/Las Vegas game? 40 mph gust came in and snap hooked it completely left
  21. I wouldn’t say magical. I just agree with the approach this region has over what the Midwest is doing. Hell I believe even golf courses were closed up there until mid Summer
  22. As I said earlier that’s probably the worst idea. People have had it and are doing tons of private gatherings where the spread is happening. I’d rather have people at a Michigan-Michigan State football game with 20% capacity or a restaurant with limited capacity spaced out as you’re allowing people that recreation with safety measures. It’s why numbers with the exception of Florida are fairly low here in the South. The fatigue is not nearly what you have in the Rust Belt. The amount of family and friends I have trying to visit is wild right now. While cold weather plays a factor, they all talk about how they’re sick of not being able to go to games or how restricted things like bowling alleys and restaurants are up there
  23. It’s why I’m a fan of limited yet reasonable restrictions. People are more likely to have their guard up in public and forced to in those establishments/places. Forcing people to basically stay home and visit “essential businesses” only raises the chance for home gatherings and cookouts where it’s really going to spread
  24. I think we’re doing actually really well tbh. Europe’s numbers are much worse than ours currently and they’re going ballistic over new lockdowns. Riots everywhere and mass traffic exodus out of cities
  25. I will say flights are getting awfully cheap. Probably going to head home to Michigan for the holidays if I can snag a round trip flight for $150
