  1. Marginally? Around the eyewall will be akin to a Midwest derecho for hours with a 3-6’ storm surge. This will definitely be a hell of a hit
  2. Big tornado on Lake Murray today. Dreher Island State Park was hit
  3. My old stomping grounds were under three separate Severe T-Storm Warnings today, I don’t know if that has ever happened before. Lots of damage in the hometown by the 3 AM line, another line of severe storms hit the Toledo area around breakfast, and then this afternoon’s events.
  4. People forget Katrina was about as perfect of a setup as you could get. Camped out over the loop current, low shear and great outflow. It kicking so far west over the Gulf in the warmest part of the year is what helped it explode. Hurricane force winds extending out 100 miles is insane, that would be the equivalent of the eyewall making landfall here in Charleston & having hurricane winds in Columbia
  5. Haha A+ for effort. Maybe it's a bit Midwest of me here, but growing up in Ohio we regularly saw severe storms. But a derecho was always a whole different ball game and think they need something to differentiate between your usual severe storm, and the ones where you legit need get in a building. I'll say this, 65 mph is pretty wild stuff but anyone who's seen 90+ can attest that is a hell of an experience.
  6. Good call by the NWS! Any storm with winds 65 knots and higher or extremely large hail is something the public needs to be alerted of immediately. To be honest why not look at potentially having a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, and a Destructive/Extreme Thunderstorm Warning?
  7. Great weather, clouds and 80 something is lovely after the brutal heat we've been having
  8. It'll be cold with a few Winter Storm Warnings in your backyard
  9. Wasn’t bad at all in the pool in my opinion. Upper level smoke was very noticeable out there though
  10. Looking at 97° today here in Charleston with a dewpoint currently of 78°. Since my move from the Midwest if this pans out that’ll easily be the most extreme heat/humidity I’ve had
  11. To be honest I really couldn't care about that lol. Moving from Ohio I'm saving hundreds a year by not having a heating bill so the difference is negligible. Also my electric bill isn't extreme by any means, we have a Nest and don't run the AC when no one is home
  12. I'm okay with below average if it's not rainy. If it's cloudy and rainy there's really no benefit because you're not spending time outside at all
  13. Showing some serious winds east of Eau Claire. I wouldn’t be shocked to see this thing start showing 100 MPH radar indicated within the hour
  14. Atmosphere just looks so ripe, even into the overnight hours. So much moisture and shear available for the expected bow echo that it should be able to absolutely roar tonight. Wouldn't be shocked to see even a strong tornadic spin up as well in that line.
  15. Hot damn expected some cool pictures of the smoke, not virology talk. It's a meteorology thread folks
  16. Watching with intrigue here this evening in Charleston. Would not be shocked to see some tornadoes
  17. Did downtown Jax just get hit by a tornado?
  18. Interesting to see that as well as Brian's post. Here we've had 15 90° days this season which is two less than last year to this point.
  19. I'd be curious to see what the records would be if we based it on average highs instead of average temperature. Would there be a difference?
  20. Was camping and noticed a lot of high clouds coming in so we headed back to the camper. I was able to use my parents radar (no smartphone yet) and when I saw that, oh boy. Some of the wildest winds I have ever seen.
  21. If I'm not mistaken Seattle broke their all time record by 8 degrees. That is insane
  22. Might head out to Folly in a bit here
