  1. About as perfect of a beach day as you can get here at Jones beach currently! The water is a light blue/turquoise with that light winds and plenty surface warming. For a minute you would think you were on a tropical island somewhere
  2. My buddy just sent me a video from jones beach of an apocalyptic sand storm. Said the winds were the strongest he has ever seen. Of course I missed it.
  3. Wow, some incredible rates with the first cell here in manhattan. Instant flash flooding. 4-5” type rates
  4. Me too, I have some video of cloud rotating overhead. Winds went north to east and then south
  5. Getting some good thunder now with the smal cells on the uws.
  6. I could see someone in the area getting some serious wind damage. And the park predictably hit 90, as the top layer of soil had dried out.
  7. Nothing better then a major heat wave bookended with major rain events.I think 2” is doable this evening
  8. Absolutely epic light show right now. I’m up on the roof enjoying every stroke.
  9. I believe that’s the highest temp ever recorded at the wantagh meso net. It’s only two years old, but still pretty cool.
  10. Just a brutal day for me. I have been running a hose over myself. I have been watering non stop. If you want award winning horticulture it’s a necessity https://www.prix-versailles.com/2019-campuses won an award for our new building. If anyone’s interest click the link and you can see the terraces I maintain.
  11. That thing is epic, look at the rapid movement and super high cloud tops. To me that just as important as radar presentation for discerning what’s a truly a derecho. Although technically the parameters are length and wind speed
  12. Almost feels like a BDC came through here on the uws. Had a nice break from the rain for a couple hours
  13. They are pretty hard to predict in advance and very rare around here. I would actually be the most worried in NYC for equipment overload failures.
  14. I was just setting up our huge portable generator on campus. its been pouring on and off all morning on the uws. Definitely a good thing heading into the mega heat wave
  15. Heat index’s will be some of the highest we have seen in many many years with dews near 80. The scale is rightfully skewed higher for heat index’s. Expect the park to run way low again after 2” of rain, until things fully dry out by Sunday
  16. Top layer of top soil will be dry by Friday forget Monday. Looks like I may have jackpoted on the uws. Not so much at home, but I’m never home to enjoy my personal gardens anyway
  17. Typical careful what you wish for moment for me. The lightning was epic from my unobstructed 18th floor viewing spot on the uws but then had to unclog all the drains on campus. Totally soaked, but so are the plants so it’s a win
  18. I wouldn’t say that, the city and the south shore will find a way to miss anything major.
  19. Still baking on the uws. Waiting for anything to cool things down.
  20. Today’s ruff for those of us that work outside. Luckily I’ll be life guarding Friday-Sunday at Jones beach. Not that I would be able to get anything done here on campus.
  21. I cannot wait for some monsoon type rains here on the uws. Watering in this heat is brutal!
  22. Absolutely feels like being in the tropics. The air has that thick feel. Now let’s get every possible drop out before we roast this weekend. I’m going to freak if we do not get a good soaking on the uws!
