Sometimes these squashed systems can provide enough WAA west of the Apps to give some bonus amounts.
A bit of a poor mans inverted trough.
-
As long as the H5 look stays the same all week, we have a chance.
-
Ravens won the division(by 1/2 game) thus earning them the right to host a wild card game.
Congrats......and your welcome, from Pittsburgh.
Hope u enjoyed it.

CMC keeps showing a weird inland runner. It's over a week out though. The signal is there for atleast a storm in that time period. We may finally have something to track.
Yeah, similar to Nov 1950 where warmer 850 mb temps get drawn overtop the colder 850 core.
Hopefully it's still there next Fri/Sat.
On TT in the Lower Dynamics section, the 850 temp adv & FGEN tab shows this nicely.

At 4:35 pm, daily rainfall at Pittsburgh reached 0.34". That brings total precipitation for 2018 to 57.42". As a result, 2018 has surpassed 2004 when 57.41" precipitation was recorded to become Pittsburgh's wettest year on record.
Earlier today, 2018 surpassed 2011 when 68.02" precipitation fell at Louisville, KY, to become that City's wettest year on record.
Year of the rainstorm.
Started back in January with heavy rain, and kept going.

Sneaky system tonight, may be able to pick up a dusting
There's been a few tiny flakes in the air this afternoon.
The local AFD does mention some activity mostly near I-80, but I'm sure we'll get a flurry or two.

Fair grades. Rain was definitely the story this year.
Also can’t believe it will be 25 years since the 1/4/94 snowstorm.
Just shows how rare a track that is for Miller A’s.

Not much to root for right now ( steeler season mistake after mistake after mistake...)
However the yearly precip record will probably be broken this week...yaaa

Mangled wet flakes splattering on the windshield.
Slow changeover beginning.

NAMs back to showing backend snow and a decent amount. Let's see if there's any precip once the temps crash.
Yeah, hopefully what falls as snow will be dynamic enough, before the precip shuts down.

Wow - Jeff V let go from KDKA.
Obviously, he was not kind to weenies and hobbyists, but the general public seemed to like him
I know some folks will never forgive him for 2/5/10 (let it go...lol), but overall he seemed pretty solid.
That cold air earlier in the week, would have provided a nice high end advisory/warning event this weekend. SMH

12z GFS has a Christmas Day snow storm, yay! Lol.

Unfortunately patience is the key again this winter.
Although it’s basically been winter for about a month now, the cold/dry, warm/wet cycle is getting old pretty quick.
So hopefully we get at least some advisory level snow soon.
-
Living on a SW facing hill, I tend to lose snowpack pretty quickly, especially with SW winds.
But it looks like everyones snowpack got decimated this weekend.

I don't mind transient warmth in winter so much, say a day or two in between pattern flexes. I'm not a huge fan, however, of two to three weeks of the doldrums. Maybe we have once chance as the "new" pattern shuffles, but it doesn't look all that promising right now.
It’s been a long time since we’ve had a US 119 special.
Hopefully this will be the year.

See what happens when winter gets off to a normal star, we can actually enjoy this mid winter break.
Chasing snow into February causes every missed storm to be magnified.

19 in report outside of boston. The rich get richer..
Oh yeah, SNE has been winning in general for a long time.
They're naturally going to have better chances at snowstorms, just because of geography.
But the last 15 or so years, has been win after win after win. Lol

Honestly at this point I have accepted the fact that our area just absolutely sucks for snow. But let's be honest we are atleast wayyyyyyyyyyy overdo for 6-12 type storm. Couldn't tell you the last time the metro had a winter storm warning for plain snow.
Yeah, a legit WSW before the storm, probably 2010.

I see Boston is under a winter storm watch for 8-12 inches of snow. It seems like they get at least 2 or 3 of these types of storms a year. Here in pitt anymore we have to wait 4 or 5 years for one!
Lol. I wish it was only 4 or 5 years.
BTW, saw the 12z Euro make a jump SE with the low next Monday night.
Mabey we can get some snow to rain to snow action, like the old days.

**ck the NFL. The steelers were robbed.
Once he hit the ground short of the goal line he technically became a runner, so the the control rule shouldn't have applied after he stretched out.
Although, that third down play is what killed them. It's TD or throw away there.

One question someone here might know.
In NOAA's NCEI storm events database, where does the removed event data go to ?( i.e. pre 1996 winter weather etc. )
-
Unfortunately I could only find clips for this storm in your area. (Pgh was kinda screwed, while State College got 2 ft)
Anybody remember this storm. ( 3/1/94-3/3/94 ) It appears ORH did ok.

Last real snowstorm for the metro back on 2/21/2011.
This was a thread the needle type, that gave a relatively narrow area 8-9".

Wtae was similar to kdka.
It's still early, but for the second year in a row the warmer less snowy forecast is leading the way.
Although Cropper waiting until 2/3 of November was over, and still including it in his forecast is weak sauce.
