  1. I will be surprised if we see that much in any event this winter. In fact, I will be surprised if my area gets accumulating snow. 3-4 inches would be a big deal at this point.
  2. Generally if something good is showing people will be in here writing about it. So there's that....
  3. I think you nailed it. Snow is transient. Think of the Tibetan Monks who made elaborate sculptures from butter; they understood it would melt, like life itself. If you lived in a part of the world where it snowed for 7 months out of the year, you might not miss it if you moved....and in fact when I talk to people in FL who lived in Buffalo or upper Michigan or Syracuse they say they moved specifically to get away from snow and cold. Likewise, many people who have grown up in the heat don't miss it when they move to a milder climate. We like snow precisely because it is temporary and transient.
  4. Let's see if we can get one storm to deliver for us before we go off half-cocked again. Expectations need to be modest. A 2-4 front end would be something to celebrate at this point. I know you're not saying it will happen, but we've all been burned this winter so far.
  5. It's generally not a snowy place. Winters kinda look like, well, the one we're having...
  6. Yeah and they are not happy about it at all. They are in a near panic. It is not a city that is used to snow.
  7. You could consider Brooklyn, SI and Queens and most of Middlesex Co NJ coastal for these purposes, and any wind not from the north or northeast will turn everything over to rain and right quick. That said, we can sometimes eke out 4-8 before a changeover, which would be fabulous considering how the year has gone. Reserving judgement until I see the snow on the ground.
  8. Just as often the rain line races north. Let's hope we can get a few inches at least.
  9. Of course I just wasted a 25 lb bag of salt on a glacier in front of my house that is now melted anyway. Figured I wouldn't need it......
  10. You should try Maine; my BIL is sick of the snow already. He posts videos complaining about it. But he tried AZ for a trip and couldn't bear the heat. Hated Fl too. Hated NJ too, but so does everyone so there's that....if I lived in ME I would ice fish but down here it isn't worth it; the fish are not there in numbers and nothing freezes for long enough ( though in some parts of NJ it does ). But i thought you were a surfer dude....
  11. Don't worry about them; everyone I know there is absolutely thrilled with the lack of snow. Unlike here, they are very unlikely to go back to back with several stinker winters. They enjoy the break.
  12. Yeah and it had been a rather warm and uneventful winter too, I think it hit 72 in Jan..?, I was at the Philly zoo and people were wearing shorts IIRC.
  13. LOL throwing in the towel is getting old? C'mon brother, ya'll know what has been getting old around these here parts... do I gotta spell it out for ya pardner? We all need a good storm here, no one will be laughing if one happens, trust me. They'll be crying tears of joy ( not me though, gotta draw the line somewhere ). It's true that Feb can deliver big snows, but in my experience, it's usually on the heels of some other events in Dec and Jan ( but not always, 2006 being an example ).
  14. My sentiments exactly. But I still wouldn't mind March or April snow. Put it this way, when I got the snowblower out for last April's snow, people laughed about it." It will be gone by this afternoon, why bother?"
  15. Time to move on. Got drawn in this morning, but at least these storm potentials are falling apart more quickly now so we don't waste days tracking rain or clouds.
  16. I wouldn't be shocked if we don't get any either, though. It has the feel of the kind year where it ain't gonna come together. Worse, those years can come in bunches. Keep waiting for something to happen and it isn't; there were clouds of salt dust on 287 today. A least a good soaking rain will get rid of that.
  17. That's only because of the small sample. If you look at the few events, it does seem they are followed by less than stellar winters in recent decades.
  18. But in the 80's you didn't lose days and days to oddly warm weather, something that happens more and more often.
  19. If Anthony doesn't see the possibility then that surely means all possibilities for signifiant snow are off the table. Earlier a pro met on this site commented that if this coming setup couldn't deliver snow, then we are basically just snake bitten this winter. I haven't seen a stinker of this magnitude since 2012, another year with an odd early snow storm.
