February 2019 General Discussion and Observation Thread

Meanwhile my niece just moved back from Minnesota she said you can have all the snow and cold you want there but she's had it. Came back here where the winters are " more reasonable." -
Well we get about 2 when a little more is expected, so going by that an expected 1-3 should mean a few snow showers. If that.

Which day? Getting confused by all the potential events, none of which I actually expect to come to fruition, but it's nice to talk about.... -

I am hoping this new crop of youngsters can turn things around. There was so much hope when Donovan and Onyewu and Mathis were in their prime, along with Dempsey and an even a younger Michael Bradley. But the last few years of Jozy Altidore looking confused and leaving Donovan off the 2014 WC team because the coach was an egomaniac, led me to all but give up. Turned out instead of continuing to get better, we just had a golden generation of guys that were really good by American standards, and competitive if not great by international ones. The loss to Trinidad and Tobago by a disinterested team trying make the WC on the back of a 20 year old Pulisic, and needing only a tie to do so, in front of an empty HS stadium will remain one of the most embarrassing moments in all of US sports. -
Yes, NJ is nothing but malls and highways. Mall opens at 6:30 am for walkers. Kind of interesting to see all the maintenance people in the morning; the tropical plant tenders, window washers, the security guards, the cleaners and mechanics, the bird trappers ( yes it's a thing ) the roach and rat exterminators.....and sadly the homeless in winter.

Amen brother. Reminds me of 2007.We'd wait 3 years for another decent winter, 2010, and even that one had it's share of pain. -

You should try being a US men’s soccer fan. The Rutgers men’s soccer team was once very good. But theUS men, ugh. Losses to Trinidad,Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, and struggles against Antigua and Barbados over the years. They did beat Spain once a decade ago, and beat Brazil once, 20 years ago....gotta say I’m not so loyal they are hard to watch. -
A little icy here this morning but should melt off quickly as the sun comes up. Believe it or not much of the snow pack, such as it is, remained intact. Expecting that to be gone by late noon. Gonna do an early morning walk in the park and enjoy it while its here.

Thanks. 30 more days, that is significant. -
Heavy moisture laden snow just came crashing down from my solar panels and shook the whole house. There was no mention of this when they were pitching them to me. If I had been standing on the back patio I would have been flattened. And I was just out there shoveling prior ( a pointless exercise on so many levels but I digress )

Wow I didn't realize it was so wet here. No wonder mold grows everywhere. -

Perhaps the better question is how many rainy days do they have, as they get lots of drizzle and we get more downpours. -
That particular cause may be rare; I can assure you subsidence is certainly not rare round my neighborhood. It's an ongoing theme, storm after storm. Guess everyone got a taste of it this time.

Yes there's even an airport there. But it is actually partly in Elizabeth.

More rain. Lovely. Have we had more rain than Portland or Seattle this year? My guess is yes. -
We should keep this in mind for any future events this year. Superstitious I know, but it has been true nonetheless. We had maybe two or three decent bands, the rest had the hallmark of light precip that lets you know you aren't going to get much. Seen it a thousand times. FWIW, this is what I experienced last March when areas to the west of me had well over a foot. We had 4 inches out this way. Seems that is an area wide thing this year. Doesn't seem to stop the torrential rains though...

Slight drizzle here. Bit of a glaze but not anything to be too concerned over.

Still all snow here but too light to mean much.

I'm surprised anyone from Brooklyn has even heard of Newark:).

Well I hope it delivers something for us Anthony. We are at least getting some small events. Maybe we get lucky. -

People argued that the sample is too small, but you can't help but notice the connection. I said it right away, that it might be the biggest of the season; I was only half joking. -
It was 1-3 for the city but 3-6 outside, and I don't see that happening unless "outside the city" is somewhere in PA....

The truth is the accumulations have not been great. I'm not sure what the problem is, but these models seem to be overdoing snow amounts more than not.
