tracking these "events" is starting to look like a waste of time. I'm retired and bored, and its too cold for fishing , so I follow along. But these last few events have been just ridiculous.

I think where you live matters.People in NJ hate snow with a passion. They quite literally won't even say the word, " well rain is better than that other stuff" You mean snow? " No, don't say it! Ahhhgg!!"

Just came from Dollar Tree....shelves bare, lines to the door...still looking for floor cleaner; they were out.
-
That one kinda shafted my area; officially 8 inches; and 2-3 the one before. But 8 inches was still being in the game at least. 2/6/10 was the pits.

Events like Sandy, the Snotober, and Ida were far worse due to power outages; you can't stock up on food if your fridge is down.

We had a difficult time getting around in that storm as it was daytime; I had to drive out to Hunterdon Co to see my ailing sister, and it was sleet all the way to PA.

That was the one time I felt the need to hit the supermarket, the old pathmark chain, and it was backed up the morning before. I couldn't believe we were really going to get that much snow; I was in my mid 30's and had not seen a storm of that magnitude; the 78 storm was a mere 18 inches, and closed schools for the week. I was a freshman, and would not see a multiple closure until the arch 93 super sleet storm, where I missed 3 days because the stuff was like concrete. As a teacher I enjoyed it even more.....I taught in Elizabeth and you could not find parking because the side streets were walls of ice.

If its a big storm I can understand; I talked to a woman once, back in the day, who said her husband died shoveling snow in one of the big early 60s events, and she had to keep him in the house for days before the body could be removed. I think it's stories like this, that the older ones among us remember, and maybe some of the millenials and Gen Z's remember the big storms of their childhood, and so panic ensues. Fact is nothing is going to be so bad you won't be able to shop by tomorrow evening as far as I can see.

Yeah I don’t follow football and was blindsided by that and the snow threat. And they didn’t even have what I came for. Son is a Kendrick fan but I have only vaguely heard of him. If they recorded after 1985, I’m clueless.

i have observed over the years that, for whatever reason, when south of us does well with snow, we don't. It's like a pattern sets up and damn the teleconnections, it's gonna snow where it wants to snow ( all credit to Henry Marguisity ). There is no scientific reasoning to my observation; I know you're a hard science kinda guy.

March 2017 was worse...though some areas did ok. Nemo gave us 6 inches out here in the city got 11, we lost a lot to rain and sleet at the start IIRC.
-
Well it was not historic except for one big ass KU; the rest of the year had nada in terms of serious events. But, i'd rather that than this. Not like we have a choice....
-
Yes the mood would def shift. And, I hope you're right. You've not been bullish much this year IIRC.

Well I stopped in the supermarket for some mop and glo, which seems to be scarce in this age of supply chain issues, and was surprised the lot was full....then I realized people think its gonna snow. Most of the eggs were gone ( due to the bird flu pandemic ) and a lot of the milk was gone, including the kind I needed. God help us if they ever call for an actual bona fide snow event here in CNJ.

They do suck and yet once in awhile, rarely, you get a nice thump that accumulates before the changeover. Twice that I can think of, actually....

You are usually better off to bet against a lot of snow then for it around here. had some good years in the past, but it's been crud for a few years now. And the lack of precip is one reason my sump pipe froze; in a rainy pattern, the pump works constantly, so a cold snap or two won't freeze the line. And there isn't a thing I can do about it until it thaws, so I'm ready for some prolonged higher temps.

This week is a perfect example; the fact is that nothing of major significance has really occurred for many of us, and doesn't look to either.

These boards are fun to read, but rarely do I find them very predictive of actual outcomes.
