  1. My late dad was stationed in the Middle East during WW 2 and said he didn't bother to dry off after showering because by the time he got back to his tent he was dry. After the war he hated the heat and refused to visit friends in AZ and only bought a house in S Fl because my late mom loved FL so much. He'd go there in winter ( he didn't like cold either, was a teamster who drove through NYC winters all his life ) but not in summer. I miss them both every day.
  2. Keep it around 70. Perfect. Anything over 75 gets uncomfortable, and at 100 I am not leaving the house. And I don't.
  3. I know a few good guys in local 68 and they all seem to like the heat as well, some were Navy guys. One even bought a house in Colombia ( and he's Irish ) but me I can't take the heat. There's nothing like a nice mild summer in ME on a clear lake full of bass and white perch, among other things. I see you're in Port Reading; I used to love dumping my old boat in the water at Sewaren and powering out to the bay for a day of flounder fishing in the spring and fluke and blues in the summer ( it was before the striped bass rebounded and now have started to decline again ) but I have had it with hot weather. For one, the sun causes skin cancer and you really have to cover up in it; the greasy sunscreen doesn't do anything but prevent a burn you're still getting the damaging rays. They make great clothes for it today but in the humidity we have they still get hot. And the haze. The yellow haze that comes up in summer. You don't realize it til you go someplace where they don't have it. Those particulates are killing people. Hope you enjoy your Harleys and be careful! People just don't pay attention enough to either motorcycles or bicycles and I have known people injured seriously on both. Well, joggers too, but I digress.
  4. LOL my daughter slept all day Saturday and when we went out Sunday she asked where did the snow come from? And there were only piles left anyway.
  5. Point is, it's news. Snow in some little town along Lake Erie well, really now.....they'll be fine with a foot of snow; they have plows, tractors, front loaders, blower, snow cats, and fewer people on the roads. I lost count of how much snow my BIL in ME has this winter and it isn't even a big deal. He was impressed when he was here for the Boxing Day Blizzard though. " Yeah, a little bit a snow theah..."
  6. It's been coming a long time; Bloomberg started closing schools for smaller events, and Christie started doing SEM's for storms in 2014 which were not huge blizzards but 5-10 deals. There are financial reasons for this according to some sources I have read, but don't care to get into them that much.
  7. Bring it. According to RU my area is around 24 for the season. Not great, but better than it looked 3 weeks ago. It's like watching a soccer match and your team is down a goal in OT, and scores the equalizer. You cheer like mad even though it's not a great result, but it feels like a win.
  8. Lovely pics, don. My cousin lives there. Made a fortune as a hairdresser for daytime tv. Did Kelly Rippa's hair for a long time. And she was smart enough to do college and whatever she wanted. Married an ad exec.
  9. Absolutely. But in this day and age, that is what matters. As I have said here for going on ten years, it is the social impact of weather that fascinates me. Caribou ME had a ton of snow this year. Yawn. But DC or NYC getting a predicted 4-8 and maybe more? That's news. Social media is what has heightened this, and it is also used as evidence.
  10. This is true but the adults aren't much better; the younger staff is just as glued to the screens and phones.
  11. Yeah they never really called school then, but in truth they looked like idiots some of the time. But most of the storms were small anyway, and teachers could take off without the repercussions they get now. It's a changed world, but again, this largely has to do with lawsuits. Remember auto shops, behind the wheel and Home Ec? Yeah, kids with hot stoves, uh uh. And despite the kids have higher IQ's then ever ( its' true ) they are much less inclined to listen. When i told one group i had to move from one building to another not to walk on the ice, they promptly did so and fell.
  12. Yeah for once we lucked out. Didn't know NB and EB didn't get the snow Sat. That was real close, but last year they had 10-12 when we had about 4 here. Would love to see a big storm plaster everyone again.
  13. They will be driving before you know it. And then you'll be worried about them driving in the stuff. Trust me.
  14. As a social worker in a school I understand about the meals, but keep in mind the schools don't feed the kids on holidays and weekends. There could be some contingencies for this, maybe send kids home with a care package of dry goods; the farmers would love the subsidies. Just spitballin here....nd remember, the lawyers of the world helped create this situation. Schools are sued regularly these days. In mu kid's school alone this week, a kid broke an arm in gym and she sprained her wrist and was sent for x rays. I personally have nothing against lawyers, almost became one, and know people who have.
  15. Cherish it why would you want to go to the office? Your home and not getting charged for the day embrace it!
  16. Lol and we used coal to write on a shovel and no one had no stinking air conditioning and we walked miles to school with holes in our shoes I tell ya and if we were late the teacher would beat us with a cane and when dad found out he’d whup us agin ...truth is many folks can work from home now and so can kids. My daughter was doing work all night online. Districts are seriously considering scrapping snow days altogether
  17. I am to the south and had over 6...but am outside of the city areas to the west of the city did ok
  18. I'll take it any time, and early March is still wintry enough for me; this snow looks more like the kind you get later in March. But there's nothing like a December shot or mid Jan-early Feb arctic blast with a good snow.
  19. It's really hard in March to put down much more than this; i'd call it a decent storm given the year we had and the time of year. That's close to ten inches in two days; If this were Jan we'd have probably a foot of snowpack.
  20. Gotta expect mixing with no blocking and marginal set ups. Justhope to get some decent accums down first.
