  1. Just west of Raritan Bay here, did not see much heavy rain at all. If this had been snow it would have been another instance where I wasn't seeing much but people here would be telling me I'm wrong....
  2. You had some breaks in between....this has been relentless.
  3. Tell it to the captains who are spending most of the prime fall fishing season tied to the dock due to horrid winds.....sunny dry and calm is one thing, repeated 20-30 out of the south and northeast, rain or no, is ruining the whole season. Hope we don't have this pattern in the winter, where the precip avoids us.
  4. It's a nightmare for anglers and boaters, especially if you get seasick. Was off Breezy Point a few weeks ago and got the dry heaves, despite taking medication. One thing our fisheries regulators fail to understand is that anglers can't always get to the fish. We may only get a few days here and there where conditions are favorable. And then we are expected to throw all the fish back for....what? Conservation? No, these very fish are caught by commercial netters anyway. It's why I do more lake fishing these days. As for this one, it will send the fish packing for offshore early. We will be stuck fishing inshore for striped bass ( which are again declining ) that we won't be able to keep anyway. ( I actually don't keep them, or even fish much for them ).
  5. The seas are dreadful with 10-15 foot rollers being forecast and gale force east winds. Can't remember such a run of bad conditions this time of year.
  6. I'll wait for December thanks. Still waiting for the seas to calm down....waiting...waiting....thoughts turning to retirement.
  7. Been nothing but swells on the ocean punctuated by rough seas; can't get out to the fish. of course the weather will cool and the fish will move out of range now. For the first time, thinking about moving south and living near a lake. Winter really is too long here, even if it doesn't always seem that way.
  8. Great. Then it will disappear in December and not return again til April.....
  9. ALways a little sad to see the seasons change, but I prefer the fall weather to summer. The long wet, cold winters are starting to wear on me; it doesn't snow enough in my parts to make winter sports possible, and isn't warm enough for things like fishing. Never thought I'd say it, but am looking to retire where the fishing season is longer.
  10. Nothing but some light drizzle here. And that's only intermittent; not enough to keep the streets wet.
  11. Yes, which makes dismal wet winters seem longer, if followed by dismal wet springs, hence people complaining. It has been tough for gardeners and farmers this year, and part of the rivers used to transport grain are too high and barges can't get through, leaving crops to rot. Among other problems. And the mosquitos, my God, they are vicious this year. That's one species that climate change could make even worse.
  12. We never got the big storms here, and for two days I skipped fishing trips waiting for the bad weather, which never came. Unfortunately we have an easterly flow now, not good for boating and fishing, at least in the ocean. Meh, fishing has sucked anyway, but we were hoping for some porgies to show up. They haven't. Can feel the humidity starting to build up again.
  13. Not looking forward to that, but I will be in Va beach ( family likes the place; not me ) where I'm sure it will be hotter.
  14. Worrisome news but not at all surprising. Why the unusually cool wet springs though? My garden took a beating in the spring; I lost a lot of crops and had to replant, often using plastic raised beds and pots, which hold heat better but dry out too fast. Now I have produce coming out of my ears; once it got hot they took off. Interestingly, tomatoes don't set fruit over around 85 degrees; you need a cooler period before that. Once fall comes they will start setting again, but the results are never the same.
  15. I have been there on Memorial Day and been able to swim in a lake ( albeit a bit cold ) and I have been there when it was downright frigid.....2012 or 13 was like that, and in snowed in upstate NYC IIRC, or somewhere up there...
  16. It is impervious to Roundup, which I wouldn't use anyway until they sort out the cancer stuff.
  17. I think I remember one in 1982....I still had hair and was wearing a Members Only jacket....
  18. One other fun fact, it's actually edible and not bad from what I have read.
  19. It talks back, tells you it hates you, you're a loser, and then asks for a 20$?
  20. It's attraction to bees is actually cited as a good thing. It was so thick along the Bronx River that homeless camps were able to exist in them unseen from the outside. They are considering bringing in a natural predator from Japan, but the concern is that it might also attack other plants.
  21. If you get a backhoe and remove down to about 10 feet you might be ok.....
  22. Worst summer ever. But it came after a blockbuster winter at least, one of the greats. But summer? Couldn't even go for a swim, water was too cold.
  23. Speaking of weeds, the cold hasn't bothered the knotweed, the invasive plant from Japan, which makes kudzu look quaint.....it nearly took over the Bronx River area. In the UK they won't even issue you a mortgage if the stuff is found in your yard. Have you seen it? You bet. Go down to any local stream, you'll see the banks covered with it. The roots can be the extent of a football field; they can grow up through foundations. Like something outta Dr. Who....
