  1. I don't think NYC will get a big snowstorm this winter.
  2. Well now ya know.....let's be honest, without some snow winter is pretty boring. Cold, wet, chilly, grey ( well my grass is still green and my garden herbs still growing )and muddy. Yuck.
  3. You could not pay me to live in Utah. I'd give up snow for life first, wouldn't give it a second thought. I gotta have a large body of water nearby, with big fish in it, preferably an ocean but one of the Great Lakes will do ( Salt Lake doesn't have fish ).
  4. I hate to tell you this but it can go on like this for several winters in a row...it frequently did in the past....even if it gets darn cold.
  5. Would love to see a list of the 70's and 80's.....Unc?
  6. Why would anyone waste time on Steve DeMartino? Did he give up his day job in retail?
  7. Think I'm going to lay low for awhile. There's nothing going on and nothing on the horizon of any significance; the story is the AN temps and lack of snow, and the severe flu season. Flu seems to be enjoying the mild winter....
  8. I wonder if it will just continue with the chilly dull blah punctuated by drenching rain. At this point a torch would be a change of pace.
  9. Indeed. But I enjoy a good snowstorm as much as anyone. But this year I'm not missing it. Maybe I've seen too many.
  10. Gut instincts are mostly worthless and "positive" is relative, in that positive for the vast majority of folks is that this never turns into anything frozen or just doesn't happen. I feel like this is an alternative universe here. My gut tells me this ain't our winter, and this storm won't be any different. But that isn't worth much....
  11. Great photos too; the section on near misses is most fascinating; one shows an ice storm the likes of which most have been nothing short of epic ( a miss, I guess, because it wasn't snow ) and the images of people trying to scale icebergs in Manhattan after the 93 superstorm, where ten inches of snow, sleet and freezing rain crippled the area....
  12. Kocin and Ucellini, sort of the Dean Martin/ Jerry Lewis of snowstorms, and authors of the bible, Northeast Snowstorms, which was written before the big decade of the 2010's.
  13. If this has your attention then it has mine.
  14. Well yeah that clears things up doesn't it...there could be a storm. We don't know what it's gonna do. But being winter it might snow. Or not. Stay tuned. Maybe we could sacrifice a goat and read the entrails.....
  15. Do you have a raincoat and rubber boots? Cause that's the theme this winter.....
  16. I already gave up. Writings been on the wall for awhile. And TBH, I'm really not missing the snow that much. It'll be back again, at some point. Don't think I'll be in the area if it's a multi-year thing ( and that has happened ) cause I'll be retired and living where I can afford it. Might be an area that snows, might not be.
  17. Indeed. Storm after storm of wind driven rain; blew my storm door off and shattered the glass. Wouldn't see a snow storm of any consequence for years....til Jan 2001, year of the infamous March non-event....and yes I know it delivered north but really.....
  18. Even 06-7 had a few sleet events. I'm not hopeful for this year; once it says snowless this long I kinda give up on it. If it happens great, but not expecting it.
  19. 81 is desolate for long stretches; it's a nice ride in summer with daylight. For night driving I'd stick to 95 because you are always near civilization if something goes down. That said there have been numerous times when we have found ourselves wasting hours driving around DC due to a wrong turn, with or without GPS. It gets me mad every single time and, well, I don't travel anymore. I'm travel adverse. Nothing I wish to see anywhere.
  20. It did feel good I am battling a flu like illness right now and that sun felt good between the coughing fits.
  21. Happens a lot down here. All of the epic storms in 09-10 were meh down here, in the late Feb one. There are many others; Jan 2018, Jan 2015, March 2017, March 2018.
