  1. The map is wrong. Middlesex county did not receive 5 inches. There was hardly an inch, and it was light sleet. Perhaps they mean 3-5 inches FELL, but it did not accumulate. Period. I was there. I saw it. Prepared for two days waiting for it, and lost two days of work ( school system ) waiting for it. In fact it did not snow at all; what fell was sleet.
  2. We're. generally starved for moisture, have been for awhile. Can't expect big snows when near drought conditions still predominate. One of the reasons my sump pipe froze was not just the colder temps, but not enough rain to keep it running; it usually spits out every few hours; that hasn't been happening with the lack of rain. So water from the street was able to back up into it and freeze. Today it finally thawed thank God.
  3. There's no way Newark had 6 inches in March 2001; I didn't crack half an inch and I'm not that far from Newark.
  4. I had confidence that would happen. Some years just suck. This is one of them.I'm not sure following these models is worth much these days; they shift around so much it's hard to get excited about anything at all. In a few weeks this torture will be over. I'm confident of that.
  5. We did have a winter feel this year, just no big snows. Better than a cloudy 40-45 every day with rain like some winters. No contest.
  6. I was disappointed in the outcome across CNJ, but as I went to clean there was no way I was going to be able to cut through that crud. Fortunately, the big ass snowblower ate it right up. Didn't think I'd ever use it on a 1-2 inch deal, but man what a difference...neighbors are still chopping. Went for a walk in Roosevelt Park in Edison and hoo boy, it was hazardous. Even with hikers designed for ice. What's next...bring it on.
  7. I managed less than that just across the river. Just went outside; rain and slush. Really got shafted this time. CNJ was not the place to be. Never expected much but surprised areas to the east did much better.
  8. Glad some of you got a couple inches but it really sucked here. Scratched out roughly an inch before turning to rain. Gonna watch tv. Stay safe all.
  9. tracking these "events" is starting to look like a waste of time. I'm retired and bored, and its too cold for fishing , so I follow along. But these last few events have been just ridiculous.
  10. I think where you live matters.People in NJ hate snow with a passion. They quite literally won't even say the word, " well rain is better than that other stuff" You mean snow? " No, don't say it! Ahhhgg!!"
  11. Just came from Dollar Tree....shelves bare, lines to the door...still looking for floor cleaner; they were out.
  12. That one kinda shafted my area; officially 8 inches; and 2-3 the one before. But 8 inches was still being in the game at least. 2/6/10 was the pits.
  13. Events like Sandy, the Snotober, and Ida were far worse due to power outages; you can't stock up on food if your fridge is down.
  14. We had a difficult time getting around in that storm as it was daytime; I had to drive out to Hunterdon Co to see my ailing sister, and it was sleet all the way to PA.
  15. That was the one time I felt the need to hit the supermarket, the old pathmark chain, and it was backed up the morning before. I couldn't believe we were really going to get that much snow; I was in my mid 30's and had not seen a storm of that magnitude; the 78 storm was a mere 18 inches, and closed schools for the week. I was a freshman, and would not see a multiple closure until the arch 93 super sleet storm, where I missed 3 days because the stuff was like concrete. As a teacher I enjoyed it even more.....I taught in Elizabeth and you could not find parking because the side streets were walls of ice.
  16. If its a big storm I can understand; I talked to a woman once, back in the day, who said her husband died shoveling snow in one of the big early 60s events, and she had to keep him in the house for days before the body could be removed. I think it's stories like this, that the older ones among us remember, and maybe some of the millenials and Gen Z's remember the big storms of their childhood, and so panic ensues. Fact is nothing is going to be so bad you won't be able to shop by tomorrow evening as far as I can see.
