Wintry mix potential weekend of Jan 18-19, 2020
Big Jims Videos replied to wdrag's topic in New York City Metro
We are about to changeover to sleet or freezing rain in the NW Philly burbs where I am now in Phoenixville. That line is rapidly advancing east. It's still about 25 degrees outside.- 1,119 replies

Possible frontal wave snow
Big Jims Videos replied to Zelocita Weather's topic in New York City Metro
The Raritan Bay effect snow was fun for about an hour this morning in Long Branch. We were at Pier Village on the boardwalk. When it combined with the band moving from the West it dropped visibility down to about 1/3 mile and coated everything even pavement at 9 am. -
Possible frontal wave snow
Big Jims Videos replied to Zelocita Weather's topic in New York City Metro
The morning rush hour Wednesday has the potential to be quite dicey as it stands right now. No one is going to take a snow threat seriously tomorrow when it's 65 degrees and raining. -
Possible Dec 1-3 Winter Storm
Big Jims Videos replied to Zelocita Weather's topic in New York City Metro
I don't mean for you. I mean for areas where nothing fell. Nothing is on the ground. Where is the justification for WSW when the actual forecast calls for an additional 1-2 inches on top of nothing? How can that be substantiated? -
Possible Dec 1-3 Winter Storm
Big Jims Videos replied to Zelocita Weather's topic in New York City Metro
There's no reason Western NJ should still be in a winter storm warning when no accumulating snow fell from Trenton to Princeton and now they're only calling for 1-2 inches more. Same goes for most of Hunterdon County south of Flemington. Where less than 2 fell all day. -
Dry air is a storm killer. Dave Curren now lowering potential totals. I knew we were in trouble especially for Western NJ when the sun was coming out at 11 am in Princeton.

It's only my second one. Got a deal for my birthday. But at least Royal Caribbean is already pledging to help. I know exactly what you're talking about though.

My friend (who lacks a soul apparently) says if the workers are homeless or worse they'll just staff it with crew from the ship.

Definitely a top 5 wind event for me in my lifetime. Here's video of the tree falling as it happened across my street we took. Very little rain fell. No lightning or thunder either. -

We just hit 100 here in point pleasant beach. I'm on the beach currently with a 15 mph land breeze and some hungry black flies biting my ankles. Relief is only found in the water about 75 degrees. -

The August 21, 2017 Great American Eclipse
Big Jims Videos replied to ice1972's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
Mike Rizzo (news 12 met), his GF, Noni Hodges (News 12 met) and myself chased from NJ to Seneca, South Carolina to the Duke Energy facility in the upstate. I just threw this little video together of our experience. If I said I didn't cry when it happened I would be lying. If I said I didn't cry assembling this video, again, I would be lying. We had 2 minutes 30 seconds of totality. It was the greatest single nature moment of my life. I find myself even getting choked up when trying to describe to friends back at home what it was actually like. -
Historic Tornado Outbreak April 27, 2011
Big Jims Videos replied to CUmet's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
I am covering what was probably an EF-0 tornado in Luzerne County, PA today for my news. It's so shocking to see the southern death toll so high. When I got home from work yesterday, I was watching TWC and ABC 33/40 coverage simultaneously. It was the best wall-to-wall severe coverage I have ever seen. But I got a sick feeling when the debris started raining down in Birmingham. It was a sick to my stomach feeling, and those fears are realized. We had quite a bit of damage in our coverage area in NEPA and Central PA...but it really makes you take one step back when you're covering a couple hundred trees snapped off and then look at the areal shots from Tuscaloosa and see how many innocent people--who woke up that morning ready to live their life, had theirs taken away from them so suddenly, so horrifically, and so tragically.... Anyone negatively commenting on the media's coverage during the storms yesterday needs to just take a step back and understand hundreds/thousands of lives may have been saved from advanced warning the on-air mets were providing--from TWC to ABC 33/40 to all the affiliates in the south that were running wall-to-wall coverage. Negatively charged comments toward the media should be aimed and centered to the stations that aired regular programming during the time of the southern outbreak...
