  1. As per Cuomo schools will remain closed for the rest of the academic year.
  2. It figures that my wife and I have been talking about doing some traveling once we were both retired. I’ve been retired coming up on 4 years and she just retired on Valentines Day this year. 2 days before she retired our 14 year old Bichon Frise collapsed. She spent several days at the VMC in East Syracuse and did ok in oxygen but crashed when taken out. We finally took her home in a makeshift oxygen tent but she wasn’t doing well so we euthanized her on 2/20. Then our other dog, who had cancer, dies in front of us on April 14. So we’re now dogless and free to travel but of course the corona virus hits and there goes the chance to travel. I would just as soon forget 2020.
  3. Remdesivir is a treatment for Covid 19, not a vaccine. As Kramer was saying on CNBC this morning if a treatment can be developed that greatly reduces the risk of death from this virus it will be a game changer for the economy. People are deathly (sorry for the pun) afraid of dying and will not return to normal economic behavior until that fear is alleved.
  4. We usually try to make it there once every year just to walk around, get something to eat, check out the sand and butter sculptures, etc. Now that we’re both retired we can go during the week when crowds aren’t as bad. The older I get the more I hate putting up with large crowds
  5. Your numbers are almost 200 more than what the governor announced.
  6. Cuomo is in Syracuse for his press briefing today at 12:15. I wonder if he’s going to announce that Central New York will be the first area to start relaxing lockdown restrictions after May 15?
  7. Not in New York State. 10 days ago deaths were almost 800 a day. Now it’s down to 337. I think you’re looking at national numbers which are going up in other parts of the country.
  8. There’s been a steady downward trend for the last week.
  9. 337 deaths yesterday. The death numbers continue to fall.
  10. Business will not be back to normal for quite a while, probably not until an effective vaccine is developed. Expect social distancing to remain in effect and all large gatherings such as sporting events, concerts and fairs to be cancelled. Be ready for a “new” normal.
  11. He needs to continue to use the same way of counting that he’s used from the start if trends are to mean anything.
  12. Of course the normal high in Syracuse right now is around 60.
  13. I’m not sure where you get your statistics but a Cuomo reported 367 deaths in his news conference today.
  14. Trump will buy it from you. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/trump-seeks-to-add-75-million-barrels-of-oil-to-strategic-petroleum-reserve-amid-historic-price-crash-2020-04-20
  15. They don’t. Our county executive had closed all but state run golf courses in Onondaga County but once Cuomo opened privately run courses he had to defer to that.
  16. Numbers are down in Onondaga County. The county executive is talking about possibly relaxing some restrictions after May 1. He wants to see how the numbers trend until then.
  17. I believe the NWS measures seasonal snowfall from July 1 to June 30 so shouldn’t the contest be open until June 30? Practically, a winner can be declared earlier.
  18. Jim Teske says we go zonal by the end of next week.
  19. Just had a squall move through here with snowfall rates that had to be 2-3 inches/hr. Unfortunately it only lasted about 10 minutes. The NWS issued a special weather statement about 10 minutes after the snow ended here. Another snow shower is ready to pass through.
  20. At his daily press conference, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon announced 16 new cases since yesterday but 5 deaths. The 5 deaths represent the biggest daily death toll to date.
  21. You’re not going to get a vaccine this fall. Most phase 1 clinal trials aren’t going to start until September. Next spring is probably the earliest you’ll see an effective vaccine then it will take some time to ramp up production then we go to mass inoculations.
  22. This seems to happen most mild winters are followed by crappy springs. Then when the pattern flips we go immediately to 90 in May.
