ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM-TV) – There is breaking news out of Elmira, as heavy rain continues to pound the region causing dangerous flooding. Multiple water rescues and evacuations in parts of Steuben County and the Northern Tier have been reported as well. Hail that size must have caused a lot of damage. We had 1.5-1.75 inch hail in 2017 that caused $7,500 in damage to my wife’s and my car. I also needed to replace my roof and gutters on my house. I still have dents in my window frames.

That was the worst storm we’ve had in quite a while, at least in terms of wind. I have a red oak in my backyard that was planted about 2 years ago and is about 15 feet tall. It’s still staked but the wind snapped one of the tie offs and the tree was almost doubled over. Probably the worst storm since our hailstorm in 2017.

That storm just went through here with winds that had to be gusting to 50 mph. A few bb sized hail storm also mixed in. I have a couple of small trees in my yard and I thought they were going to snap off.

I just went for a bike ride and I can believe it’s in the mid 80s here. Humidity is oppressive.

The sun came out here a couple of hours ago. It’s turned into a pleasant evening.

Anybody watching the Yankee game against Boston in NY? They delayed the start of the game almost an hour because of the “threat “ of rain. Not a drop fell. Then they started it just after 8 then the rain started around 9:30. The last hour has been played in a torrential downpour. They finally put the tarp on the field in the top of the 7th. As a Yankee fan I can’t complain because it gave the Yankees the chance to come back and take the lead. But what a fiasco when it comes to managing the weather.

I measured 1.03” at 7:30 this morning then I went out about 15 minutes ago when we had a break and measured 0.35” since then. My lawn desperately needs a mowing but I’d have to put pontoons on the mower to do it right now. It’s raining moderately right now with some heavier rain about to move in.

They just showed on channel 9 that this was Sizzlercuse’s 13th 90 degree day of the year while Atlanta has had only 7.

Official high for today was 90 as Sizzlercuse lives up to it’s name once again.

I had exactly 1.00 inch since yesterday morning in my rain gauge. My total for July is just over 4 inches and it’s raining again.
