But.. But... My Freedomz...

To return to the drug use discussion, as someone who supervises defendants for the courts; I can say unequivocally that drug use has increased. This is not as a "direct" result of COVID per se, but a tertiary effect resulting from probation, parole, and court systems modify their meeting and drug testing procedures. With many court hearings being done virtually, it makes it much easier for usage to go unnoticed. However, to a certain degree, those taking advantage of the current situation and using would have likely taken any opportunity to use. Drug use is a different pandemic upon itself. Lets not try to compare covid deaths to drug use increases/suicide deaths as if there are equivocal. The are not even close.

November 2020 General Discussion

That has to be foam insulation board, or incredibly high winds as that is not falling like a sheet of plywood -

Some of angry’s nonsense and my increasingly hostile replies have been removed.

I would agree. Depends on the sample size as well, but those are encouraging numbers.

"I'm not an anti vaxer but"... The classic anti-vax statement. The money, time, effort, etc being poured into the vaccine research is astronomical. I don't think it is unreasonable to think a vaccine can be developed much quicker than they have been in the past when substantially more resources are being thrown at it. Granted I want to see the studies. I want to see the data empirically peer reviewed to ensure it is legitimate and we don't have any Andrew Wakefield shenanigans. But no one has produced anything as of yet that represents any sort of evidence of data manipulation. This argument is along the same lines as the equally ridiculous "we don't cure cancer because there is more profit in treating it".

It is mind numbing to me how many people are on this, a ****ing science based board, and refuse to believe or accept science because it somehow runs against their "beliefs" or "freedoms". We look at mathematical simulations of potential atmospheric conditions, the absolute pinnacle of our current understanding of atmospheric physics, daily. Yet we have people like angrysummons who thinks that a RNA/DNA based vaccine is somehow going to modify the genetic programming of the recipient... Healthy discourse is one thing. Present your facts and we can have a conversation. There is no place for half baked, ignorant, or flatly stupid conspiracy theories on a science board. The individual liberties "anti-masker" argument is garbage as well. I have the right to carry a firearm, but I am required to use it in a safe manner and will be held accountable should I fail in that purpose. You have the right to move freely as you wish, but it you are too ****ing lazy, ignorant, or "woke" to wear a mask and you cause harm to others, you too should be held accountable.

Yep, and the flu vaccine is doing well if it has 50-60% effectiveness. If these COVID vacinnes cruise at 80-90%+, that will be incredible (at least for this strain). I can certainly see a situation where we get our COVID vaccine alongside our flu vaccine ever year.

We aren’t modifying any DNA/RNA sequence in an individual... You are essentially injecting the DNA marker of the targeted antigen in order to kickstart the immune response. Just like every other ****ing vaccine since the beginning, when people were rubbing cowpox scabs into cuts to avoid smallpox. Be it a live or inactivated virus, dna or protein markers, the idea is the same. Give the immune system a template for what it is looking for so it can mount an aggressive response to an actual infection. This is not a ****ing zombie vaccine. Your cells aren’t being hijacked. There are no lizard people. This is not a conspiracy. Let’s stay off YouTube for awhile...

I have no obligation to research your dumbass claim. All your talk about “natural” vaccines reminded me to cover my vaccine tree tonight so that the frost doesn’t damage those tender natural vaccine flowers

How in the **** do we continue to let him spew this kind of bullshit in this thread? At least back your moronic claims with some sort of source, preferably one that isn’t “covid-is-made-up.eagle/vaccines_cause_autism”. I’m not usually for censorship, but it’s these kind of false beliefs that have us where we are with this disease, i.e. bent over a barrel. Illinois reported 11,000 cases and 166 deaths yesterday. The first effective vaccine will save many, many lives, regardless of your beliefs.

Illinois has had a 107% increase in covid cases in the last 14 days. pritzker will end up ordering a lockdown, but so many people will ignore it that it probably won’t help. Hopefully will keep at least some people who are in the office working for home.

At this point, it’s going to be brutal regardless of the mitigation steps. There is no putting the toothpaste back in the tube. We have never been proactive during the pandemic. We are always reactive, usually caught with our pants down. The virus is winning, and plainly, kicking our ass handily. All the zombie movies make sense now. I totally understand how something spreads so damn fast.

Illinois with 15,415 new cases and 27 deaths

5,708 new cases in IN with 50 additional deaths.

Hearing from a physician (aka my sister) that hospitals in the LaSalle/Peru, Sandwich, and DeKalb areas have all beds full. Illinois spent millions in the spring to build the field hospital which saw 12 patients. Now we may actually need it.

My guess is that there is some political strategy to this, to soften the “blow” when it becomes an order. “We asked you to comply, and you didn’t. So it’s now a stay at home order.” Will be interesting to see how well employers comply.

I believe there were similar dissenters/protesting when seat belts were mandated. Big difference is that if you don’t wear a seatbelt, you’re only harming yourself. My risk of car accident death is unchanged by your decision. That’s not the same with the mask mandate

Pritzker mentioned more restrictions during his news conference yesterday, and I would be almost certain that my region (region 1) will be the first to have further mitigation restrictions. Yesterday we had a mind boggling positivity rate of 15.8% with 633 new cases. The university continues to be a hot spot of cases, and heading into the holidays will be a time bomb of new cases. "Sorry I gave you COVID grandma, but that turkey and stuffing really is to die for."
