  1. current temp is 69.9 - incredible for late August - my temp has been slowly falling since midnight
  2. As I am not native to Upstate SC, can someone please describe the 2000 Carolina Crusher scenario? Did the Greenville, SC area receive any significant snowfall? I could find online articles mentioning North Carolina totals only.
  3. '85 Arctic Outbreak Memories (from the Mid-South): The '85 Arctic Outbreak was well forecasted/predicted - recall reading about in the newspaper/on TV days prior High temp one day was below zero (I recall the meteorologists on TV were speechless/shaking their heads) - I used to watch (the regionally famous) meteorologist Dave Brown on WMC-TV Memphis all the time (BTW, I used to watch Dave Brown/Lance Russell hosting "Championship Wrestling" every Sat morning as a kid - had no idea I was watching history) The month of Jan/early Feb 1985 was incredible for wintry weather: snow started falling NYD 1985 (or just thereafter) and remained on the ground (after multiple other snowfalls) for 3-4 weeks (in Memphis, TN) I recall being picked up by the school bus in mid-January in mod-heavy snow (snow had just started) - got to school - heavy sleet/snow continued without abatement - and, we were dismissed about an hour later
  4. I grew up in Memphis, TN and survived that '85 arctic outbreak - I recall having one day with a high below 0 - we had snow on the ground for weeks and I was out of school for nearly a month (almost the entire month of January) - 70's/80's winters were great
  5. interesting, I'm at 38.5/37 - temp very dependent on rates - 2 miles north of I-85 near DT Greenville - mixing occurs with higher precip rates - precip lightens and the temp can rise 1/2 degree and mixing stops
  6. Chris Justus lives in the TR area (pretty sure) - maybe he has a bit of backyard bias
  7. yes, still sleeting in Greenville - but quite mild at 42
  8. bingo...and I live in the sleet capital of the US...never experienced so much sleet since I moved here...live near I85 which is normally the dividing line between liquid/frozen precip (in marginal CAD events)...this storm has potential...
  9. absolutely incredible...I don't ever remember such an extended "summer" for most of my life I've lived in TN/Upstate of SC..."Fall weather" (i.e. much lower humidity) always begins by just after Labor Day/by mid-Sept...the lingering humidity has been horrific...I feel like I live in FL
  10. My wife and I lived in Seneca (actually in a lake community north of Seneca) from 2003 thru 2006. I remember that 2004 storm! I worked in Anderson at the time - was released from my position early that morning (mod snow in Anderson); but, after driving home to Seneca, snow rates significantly subsided - I think we rec'd about 1/2 inch, at most. I wanted to stay in Oconee County - amazingly beautiful lakes with easy access to NC mountains (Cashiers, Highlands) - we'd drive up to Highlands at least once a month. However, my wife disliked Seneca/Oconee County (esp after we had our first two children) - then, after a short stay in Chattanooga (and another child!), we moved back to SC, into the city of Greenville - wife is much happier. I have great memories of Lake Keowee and the easy access to mountain activities. Absolutely correct on all points - now that I live in Greenville, I seem to receive more ice/snow.
  11. I strongly feel this winter will be special for most everyone on the board - don't think you will have to wait another 15 years
  12. no, the storm was delayed per CJ - I witnessed rain beginning about 5:30am that quickly changed to snow - now, just flurries
  13. I'm just south of DT G'ville - I have mod snow and 32 - sticking on all grassy surfaces - soon roads
  14. Enjoy your time in Tallahassee - the FL Panhandle is great - you are <90 min from the best beaches in the country (IMO much better than any beaches in NC/SC) - drive a little further west and you will reach my retirement spot, 30-A!
  15. my wife reports some sleet near DT Greenville, SC (mods please move to obs)
  16. "Bobby Mac" - that guy needs to retire - I've never heard a more cliche-filled radio show in my life - he is awful - BTW, Bobby Mac's/WORD's "weather" is just as bad - canned, robotic responses from someone out-of-state
  17. right! there is no CAD; west of Apps cold air molasses; not sure what will happen as I am right on the line!
  18. I saw him this morning, very early - he really didn't say anything - I think he quietly mentioned, "...there is a small chance for a rain/snow mix in the mountains..." Honestly, Dale Gilbert needs to retire - he is the ultimate snooze-fest. I'm waiting for an actual snow threat (during the work week!) and watch him utter the word "snow".
